"(Y/N), you're going to miss your flight if you don't hurry up", my mom shouted to me from the kitchen.
"I'm almost done", I shouted back as I crammed one more pair of jeans into my already overflowing suitcase. I finally got it zipped up and looked around my room one final time making sure that I hadn't forgotten anything. I had just graduated from college and decided to move to London for a year. It was something that I had always wanted to do, and something that my mom was nervous about letting me do.
My friend Jessica was letting me crash with her for a bit so that I could get a job and find a place to stay.
I hauled my 2 heavy suitcases and my carry-on into the hallway and slowly started making my way towards the kitchen. My mom had insisted upon driving me to the airport instead of calling an Uber, so I gave her one of my suitcases and we made our way to the garage and stuffed my bags into the trunk.
She turned to me and said, " I hate the thought of not seeing you for a whole year, but I understand that you want a chance to live your life."There was a slight tremble to her voice and I could tell that this would be a waterworks show when we had to say goodbye. My dad had to go out of town for work so I had said goodbye to him 3 days ago, but I wished that he had been here to see me off.
As we drove to the airport we started talking about all of the amazing things that I would get to see and do, my mom continually insisting me to take pictures of EVERYTHING so that I wouldn't forget any of it. I promised her I would and told her that I would try and skype her at least once a week.
We pulled up to the drop-off and my mom put the car in park and popped the trunk. She got out of the car, and after struggling to get my luggage out of the trunk, I turned to her and we started laughing. We finally got them out and just stood there in a comfortable silence. She then embraced me and started to whisper how much she would miss me and how if I didn't call or Skype her at least once a week, that she would fly to London and drag my sorry ass back home. I giggled at her and told her how much I loved her and that I would try to contact her as much as I could. I could hear her crying, which in turn made me start crying. We just stood there in an embrace, crying into each others shoulders. Finally after getting some weird looks from people passing by, we chuckled and released each other.
As I wiped away the tears that had escaped, I picked up all my luggage and carried it inside.
After checking my bags and going through the security line, I finally reached my gate, sat down, pulled out my favorite book, and waited for the flight to board.
"Flight 1164 to London is now boarding. Please make sure that you have all your carry-ons and personal items as you prepare to board. Thank you and have a good flight.", the perky flight attendant said over the speakers. I sighed and put my book back into my bag and made my way towards the plane.
*Time skip*
"Flight 1164 to London is getting ready to land. The pilot asks that you put your table-trays away and that move your seats back to the upright position. Be careful as you open the overhead bins as some items may have shifted during flight. The time is currently 1:43 P.M.Thank you for flying Delta airlines and have a wonderful rest of your day."
I slowly start to make my way to the overhead bin that I had stuffed my carry-on bag in and as I started to open it, was hit in the face by my bag tumbling out. Of course this would happen to me. I picked up my bag while rubbing my head and made my way off of the plane over to the luggage carousel to retrieve my suitcases.
Once I had my luggage, I texted Jessica and told her that I was on my way to her apartment, or flat as she constantly loves to correct me of. I was able to get a taxi and was surprised to find that it was a cute guy in his mid to late twenties with sandy blond hair and sea blue eyes that you could just melt into. He asked me where I was going and I was slightly taken aback when I heard his accent. You're in London now you idiot, of course he has an accent. You blushed and composed yourself before telling him the address in a slightly shaky voice. He smiled at me and I thought I was going to melt right into the seat.
The taxi stopped in front of a cute little brick apartment building. I stumbled out of the car and gave him the money. I was about to ask him for his number with all of the courage I could muster, but that's when I noticed the wedding band on his finger, deflating all of the bravery that I had in me. I grabbed my bags and made my way toward the door feeling like a complete moron. I finally reached my friend's' 'flat' and knocked on the door. She opened it almost immediately and enveloped me into a bone-crushing hug, but I didn't protest because I was so happy to see her.
Once we dragged my bags into my room and I finished unpacking everything, I realized that I was starting to feel hungry, so I went into the kitchen in search for some food. Jessica was in the kitchen on her phone, and my curiosity got the better of me.
".....so we'll meet you guys there at 6.....okay sounds good.....bye Phil." She hung up the phone and turned to face me.
"What was that about?" I asked curiously.
"Oh we are going to go meet Phil and Dan for dinner at Zizzi at 6. So go take a shower real quick and get dressed."
I looked down and saw that I was still in my sweats and my favorite band tee. I groaned and made my way to the bathroom.
After my shower and riffling through my clothes for about 10 minutes, I finally decided on my cute flowy white top and my floral jeans with my favorite dark brown boots and my favorite maroon cardigan.
I walked out of my room and Jess gasped.
"You looked fantastic!"
I chuckled. "Thanks Jess. You look incredible too!" She was in dark purple jeans with a gray knit sweater and matching gray boots.
She loomed down at her watch and gasped, "Shit! We have to go now or we'll be late!" We grabbed our purses and ran out the door.
