Chapter 5: Meeting the Parents

I looked out my window of the train and watched the world wiz by. Phil and Dan were on their phones playing a game, wile I had decided to opt for putting in my headphones, blasting my favorite music and reading my favorite book.

We were about half an hour from Dan's hometown and I was starting to get nervous. It's almost as if he could see the nervousness in my eyes, because he grabbed my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. I gave him a small smile and squeezed back. After staring into each others eyes for a couple minutes, we broke apart and I went back to my book.

Not long after that, we finally made it to the station. We grabbed our bags and got off, my clumsiness getting the better of me. I tripped on the door frame and tumbled onto the platform. Dan and Phil rushed over to help me up and laughed when I swatted them away, getting up with my head spinning. Dan grabbed my bag for me and put his hand on the small of my back, leading me to the cab that Phil had hauled.

We got to the house and grabbed our bags from the trunk. Dan payed the driver and led us up the path to the front door. Dan rang the doorbell and the nerves started to take over me again. Almost immediately the door swung open and there stood Dan's mother. Her eyes went straight to her son. She let go of him and looked over at Phil and brought him into a hug as well. Her eyes then caught mine and she looked over me once and embraced me just like she did her son.

"You must be (Y/N)! We've heard so much about you. It's nice to finally put a face on the woman that my Daniel can't stop talking about. I'm Mia, Dan's mother." I looked over at Dan and saw that he had his face in his hands.

"Nice to meet you." I smiled at her and followed her into the house. "So do you have any embarrassing stories you can tell me about?" I said looking back at Dan who looks slightly mortified.

"Loads!" She laughed and linked our arms together and dragged me into the kitchen, where I was introduced to Mason, Dan's father. I walked over and shook his hand.

"Nice to meet you," He turned to Dan, "She's even more gorgeous than you described."

"Okay and with that, i'm gonna go put our stuff in our room." He walked over and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before dragging Phil off into the direction of the bedrooms.

"I hope you're hungry. We're having Chicken Tikka Masala. It should be be ready in a couple of hours."

"I'm starving."

"Hey where's Adrian?" Dan said as he and Phil walked back into the kitchen. He walked over to me and put his arm around my waist, pulling me close.

"Oh, he's at a friends house, but he'll be back for dinner." Adrian is Dan's younger brother and is said to be a complete opposite of Dan. This should be interesting.

"Okay we are just going to go watch a movie in the basement."

We finally settled on watching The Lion King. We got to the final scene and all three of us had tears in our eyes.

"Dinners ready!" We all jumped a little and wiped our eyes as discretely as we could as we walked up the stairs into the kitchen. It smelled INCREDIBLE! I quickly walked over and scooped up a plate and a glass of water and followed Dan into the dining room.

I sat down and was shocked when I looked up to see a younger looking version of Dan staring at me with a weird smirk on his face. "Who's the hottie?"

"This is my new girlfriend, (Y/N)." Dan then put an arm around me. Adrian seemed to have gotten the hint because he turned to face Phil and they started talking about some video game that they're obsessed with.

"So what do you do for work?" Mason asked me.

"Oh, I work in retail. I'm a manager over at a little coffee shop near my flat."

"That sounds so peaceful." Mia chimed in.

"It is."

I started feeling light-headed, so I excused myself and went to bed early.

*time skip*

I awoke to the smell of bacon and waffles. I started to get up, but was pulled back down into Dan's arms.

"No don't leave me just yet."

"But I smell food and i'm starving!" He perked up when I said that and was out the door before I could even blink. I followed him into he kitchen and was greeted with a plate of hot food.

*time skip* end of the trip

"Ugh I can't believe I have to let you go." Mia was squeezing me so hard, I felt as if I was about to pop.

"I'll call you when we get back and we'll come back soon, i'll make sure of it." I whispered to her, hugging her back just as hard. We had grown close this past week and it felt as if I was leaving my mom all over again.

"Come on. We have to leave so we don't miss the train." I quickly hugged Mason and Adrian while Dan and Phil were saying goodbye to Mia. We finally got into the taxi and drove to the station. I was feeling so tired lately, so I ended up dozing off on Dan's shoulder when we got onto the train. He woke me up when we got there.

He took my hand and led me off the train, making sure that I didn't trip this time. I had decided to take a taxi back to my place, since I haven't seen Jessica in a week. We talked all night and she said that she knew I would get their seal of approval.

"The only thing that was weird was that I kept feeling so tired and light-headed. A couple of times, I even got kind of nauseous."

"Do you think that you may be pregnant?"

"No. It's just my period. I got it a couple days ago."

"Have you guys talked about what would happen if you did get pregnant though?

"Umm, kind of, it really hasn't been something that we've thought about. I always picture myself engaged first."

"Do you think he'll pop the question anytime soon?"

"I have no idea. Your guess is as good as mine."

*time skip* A few months later

Dan's POV:

"Your parents adore her and her parents love you. You called her dad last week and he gave you his blessing. You guys have been dating for almost a year now, when are you going to ask her?"

"Soon and I have an idea of just how to do it."
