"So the shower is at three o'clock and your mom is coming over at two-thirty to help set up." Jessica was going through the checklist of party decorations that we needed. I put pink and blue streamers in the cart as she checked them off the list.

"How many people are coming again?" I asked as I contemplated on what size package of cups to get.

"I think it was 27." I nodded and plopped pink and blue plates, napkins, silverware, and cups into the cart. We walked into the next couple aisles and grabbed some ice cream and hot wings. What can I say? I have my cravings.

We loaded all of the decorations into the car and drove to Dans' parents house. When we arrived, I stepped out of the car and was immediately embraced in the arms of my mother-in-law, Mia. "Sweetheart you look amazing! Go on inside, i'll get the bags." She then shoved me through the front door.

As we started to decorate and prepare the food, we discussed baby names.

"What about Riley for a girl?"

"Or Jax for a boy?"

"I like Liam."

"I love the name Isabella." This went on for a while, and before we knew it, there was a knock at the door.

I walked over and was relieved to see my mothers' smiling face looking back at me. "Mom!"

"Hi baby! You look great!" She put her hands on my stomach and started talking to the baby. "Hi baby girl!"

"Mom! What if it's a boy?"

"I will love him anyway, but I want a granddaughter. Even if it means you having another kid." We chuckled.

As we finished setting everything up, we heard the sound of the from door opening.  "We have the cake!" I heard my husband say as he, Phil, Mason, and my dad walked in holding a large, rectangular box. We had the baker color the cake with the gender, so that when we cut the cake, it would be either blue or pink on the inside. We also had everyone vote on what they thought the gender would be and wear that color.

People started arriving head-to-toe in either blue or pink. Everyone was anticipating for us as we got ready to cut the cake. "You ready for this?" Dan looked down as me. I stood up on my tippy-toes and gave him a quick peck on the lips.

"More than anything." I grabbed the knife and put the tip down onto the edge of the cake. Dan put his hands over mine and guided it down, making the first cut. We cut the other side and pulled the piece out, gasping when we saw....

"IT'S A BOY! " My mother shouted at the top of her lungs.

"We're having a son." I looked up into my husbands eyes and started to shed a couple tears and pulled him into my arms, embracing him.

"I think that we should paint it green."

"Why?"

"So that we can make it an animal theme. We can make it a jungle or dinosaurs." We were currently standing in the middle of the nursery with swatches of paint, trying to find out the right color.

"Or Danosaurs!" My husband winked at me as I shoved him.

"You're such a moron."

"I love you too."

"It looks amazing in here!" Jessica said as she stepped into the newly dinosaur themed nursery.

"Thanks. We worked on it all week. It was a pain trying to get this crib together!"

"Hah! Are you getting antsy yet? Just two weeks till your due date, you could pop at any moment!"

"Yeah, we are getting anxious. But that's not why I called you here. I wanted to ask you something."

"Shoot." She turned to face me.

"We want you to be the godmother."

"Shut up!? Really?!" She grabbed me and pulled me into a tight embrace. "I won't let you down....Did Dan ask Phil to be the godfather?"

"He's over at his place asking him right now."

"That kid is going to be the luckiest kid ever. With you two as his parents, and Phil and I as his influences, obviously." I smiled at my best friend and knew that we made the right decision. After she left, I sat in the rocking chair and looked around the nursery.

"Only two weeks to go." I said as I rubbed my stomach, feeling a pleasant kick beneath my fingers.

"Baby, just breath."

"Shut up! AHHHHH! I love you so much, but SHUT UP!" Another contraction came, just as bad as the first one.

"We're almost there. Push, baby, push."

"Come on Mrs.Howell, just one more push."

"I can't! I can't do it anymore." I cried.

"Yes, you can. Think of him. Think of the baby and push!"

I pushed with all of the remaining strength I had left.

The cry of my new baby boy echoed through the room, bringing more tears to my eyes. After the nurse cleaned him off, they brought him over to us and put him in my arms.

"He's beautiful!" I cried. Dan wrapped his arm around me and kissed me on my forehead, telling me how proud he was of me.

"You want to hold him?" He nodded his head and carefully stretched out his arms, making sure to support his head as he brought his newborn son close to his chest. I looked into his eyes to see tears streaming down.

*knock knock*

"Hey, can we come in?" Phil said as he popped his head around the doorframe.

"Yeah, there's someone we want you to meet." Phil and Jessica walked into the room holding a giant stuffed teddy bear.

"Meet Mason Philip Howell." I said as I held him in my arms. Phil gasped and started tearing up.

I awoke to the sound of crying and groaned. "This is the third time tonight."

"Who's turn is it?"

"Mine." I groaned again as I rolled out of the bed and made my way to Mason's room. I opened the door and walked to the crib, bending down to pick up my wailing son. "You got this mouth from your father."

"I heard that!"

"You were meant to!" I shouted back and chuckled. "Come on sweetie, bed time." I sat down in the rocking chair and started humming a melody to him, and soon enough, he was out like a light. I slowly stood up and placed him, carefully, back into the crib. I stood there staring down at my sleeping child in wonder. I never thought I could love someone so much. After a while, I silently backed out of the room, shutting the door behind me and walked back into my room. I looked to see the sleeping image of my husband taking up the whole bed. Typical. I shoved him over and was surprised as his arms appeared around my body, pulling me under him.

We didn't end up sleeping much that night.
