CHAPTER FOUR
Story Notes: "They can’t know what I’m up to just as much as she can’t."
Scarlet’s POV
We learned a lot from each other already for the past time being. I told him about my being reckless and acting all badass, even though I’m not really. I learned that he graduated last year from high school and that he was a straight-A student, a football player, and more.
He seemed very well-educated to be exact. He also appeared to be a gentleman to me. I never got attracted to these kinds of boys. You know the good and respect-deserving ones. I’m not saying I always went for bad boys and troublemakers. But I seemed way off his league. I doubt our relationship will border the “friendship” zone anyway so.
I was about to tell him a funny memory about getting drunk when I suddenly heard a crashing noise. I looked to Justin and we both leaned our heads behind us to see what it was. The guy looked really shocked to say the least. I don’t know if it was shocked expression or an embarrassed one. I couldn’t tell, but he looks like he’s just seen a ghost or something.
“Jackson?” He rasped, drawing closer to us slowly, taking baby steps as he did.
Silly, he thought Justin was Jackson. I guess that’s the frustrating part of having a twin. People will always confuse you for the other one. I look to Justin, hoping I could know what was going on. Or at least let myself get busy with a theory to whatever pops into my head. I hear him gulp. Well, that was surely comforting. I have a bad feeling about this.
“Peter. Hey what’s up man!” He said lively and maybe a way bit too much? Why didn’t he say he wasn’t Jackson? Something was definitely up.
“I haven’t seen you in like…“ The guy, Peter, began, shaking his head along. “A long time.” He smiles lightly but it fades as if he’s realized something alarming. He scrunches his brows at Justin.
“Yeah, well…Look, I’ll see you later. I’m kind of busy over here.” He says, pointing the side of his head to where I was. I smiled in an awkward manner, not really knowing what I could or should say.
Peter just stares at him and gave a few quick glances to me as well. Why was he looking at him like that? I thought. He kept looking from him to me like something didn’t add up. All of a sudden, Justin held my right shoulder. I look at his hand, savoring the touch he gave me. I don’t even know why I’m already enjoying him touching my shoulder blade. Something about his touch felt safe. But cold. Too cold.
Justin sighs. “Stay here.” He says firmly to me and I nod, not wanting to say anything else. I also choose not to comment on how he let that guy thing he's Jackson. Men. He goes over to Peter and I back away a little bit more so they could talk, not wanting to intrude in their conversation.
