CHAPTER 10

Holy shit.

She knows. She fucking knows. All I want to do right now is tell her to piss off and that whatever she knows or believes is false. But denying it would cause even more explanations. Explanations that I shouldn’t even make. But then again, I don’t owe her any type of explanation. Who was she to get an explanation from me, anyway?

Oh, just the person that finally had the guts to walk up to your home that everyone fears. The person that’s body you intend on taking over. The person that could be your only source of hope to help your twin brother to get better. That person.

Great, now my whole plan isn’t going to work out and I don’t know what else to do.

Fuck my conscience. People may say I never had one but not every waking thought that passes through my mind is sinful. Nor is it conceited. There’s no room for me to be a good person. I know I’m not a good person. But the only exception for that is my brother. He’s the only family I’ve got. I can’t take care of him if I’m a soul that will most probably never “rest in peace” and quite frankly, even as a ghost myself, I wouldn’t be entirely comfortable having ghosts in my presence.

I’ve only ever met another soul once. It was a woman. I don’t think describing her appearance would be a good idea because I was pretty scared myself. But even with a fearful look to her, she wasn’t bad at all. But that wasn’t the first impression I had gotten from her. They say first impressions don’t last. Maybe they’re right. Because from what I feel now, Scarlet wasn’t as easy as I thought she was.

“I...”

“Well?” she tried to keep her cool but I could sense, from the look on her eyes, she was scared. Terrified, even. I would be too if I were her and I was talking to a ghost that I first believed to be alive. Angry? Possibly.  It’s one thing for the living to lie to you everyday. It’s another for the dead to do the same thing.

“I don’t even know what you are.” She said.

“Are you sure?” I retorted. Just say it.
