CALUMS POV:
I walked through the revolving door back into the kitchen with my hands piled with plates and bowls. As i was putting the leftover food into the bin i heard the back entrance door creak open, 'Nobody else is meant to work today, are they?' I say to myself. Out of curiosity, i turned around to look at who it was. I was met with the sight of a young girl with piercing blue/green eyes and dirty blonde hair pulled back into a pony tail. Not what i was expecting.
"Everybody, meet Cara. She's starting work as a waitress with us today so be nice!". I jumped at the sound of my boss's voice. I was so drawn in and intrigued by this girl, i didn't hear her walk into the kitchen. Around the room came a murmur of "Hello's" and "Welcome". She smiled and looked down towards the ground, unsure of what to do next. "Calum?", my boss called. "Yes?" I said as i finally tore my eyes away from Cara to look at Anne my boss. "I would like you to take Cara under your wing for the next few weeks, just until she gets the swing of things" She told me. I jumped around internally. "Yeah, sure!" i replied to her, probably with a bit too much enthusiasm considering the look she gave me.
As Anne turned away and walked back out of the kitchen to the front of house, i walked over to Cara to introduce myself. "Hi, you must be Cara. I'm Calum" i informed her as i put my hand out for her to shake. "H..hi, ugh yes that's me...haha" she giggled slightly at the end. 'OMG she is adorable' i mentally swooned. I smiled at her and told her to follow me over to where the food was ready for us to take out to the waiting customers. "Okay, here's where we take the food from the chefs and out front. Those tickets above you show what the food is, and which table we are taking it to. Understand?" i asked her. She nodded her head and replied with a quite "Yeah". "Okay, lets go then. We're going to table 15. I'll take the burger and the gammon steak and you can take the two Chicken and Leek pies. You okay with that?" I questioned her as i picked up my two plates. "Sure, that's fine" she said as she picked up her two waiting cloths before grabbing the plates and giving me a quick smile. "Okay, leggo then!" I returned a smile to her.
CARA'S POV:
As we walked out of the kitchen and to the front of house, i looked and scanned the restaurant for table 15. I'm glad Calum knows where he's going as i would't have a clue. That's another thing added to the list of things to learn in this job. Why did i choose such a difficult and stressful job as my first one? Before i could even finish ranting to myself, Calum stopped in front of me almost resulting in me walking straight into him. "Sorry to interrupt Sir, i have the burger?" The man put his hand up slightly, indicating that he would be having the burger. "And the Gammon Steak?" He asked as the woman opposite him did the same action. I stepped forwards more and took the place of Calum. I breathed in to calm my nerves before saying "And we have the two pies?" The two other people on the table raised there hands. I walked around to the other side and placed the plates down in front of them as neatly as i could. I mentally praise myself as both plates went down without any spillages. Not bad for a first go!
I turned back around to Calum who gave me a subtle thumbs up before asking the table if they would like anymore sauces etc. When they replied and said that they had everything they needed, he turned back around to me and started to walk back to the kitchen with me hot on his heels.
"That was good for your first go! You sure you haven't been a waitress before?!" He joked. I laughed at him. "Nope! I was terrified though, surprised i didn't drop the plates with the amount that my hand were shaking!". He laughed and put his hand on my shoulder. "You did fine. There's nothing to be worried about Cara". "Especially since i'm going to send you to the next table by yourself". My smile faded. I didn't know where any of the tables were, what if i dropped the food? What is i went to the wrong table? "Hey, Cara. Stop worrying, you'll be fine. You're only going to table 14, the very last table as you walk through the restaurant. I'll be following you a few footsteps behind". I nodded hesitantly and took the waiting cloths that he handed to me and picked up the meals. 'Here goes nothing' i thought.
I walked out of the kitchen and tried to look as confident as i could. I knew where i was going. It wasn't a hard table to find, I just needed to keep my nerves under control. I turned the corner and the last table came into view. "This is it, i made it" I mumbled under my breath as i reached the table. I looked down at what was in my hands. "We have the Chicken breast?" I asked. The women next to me indicated that it was hers. I placed it down on the mat in front of her. "And the Sirloin Steak?" I asked. As i looked up at the other people on the table, i froze. It couldn't be him. He hasn't been seen in 10 years. He's meant to be dead, isn't he? My hand shook even more. I was stuck on the spot like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming bus.
