Alright, before you start thinking we sold out, let me just say this: that was no where near the last time. That was no where near the last time we were going to the Penz, and it was no where near the last time we were going to break the law. Because that was only the beginning.
At five Ric and I arrived on Selene's doorstep with the small bag of belongings we each carted from the Center (would you believe me if I said one of the things Ric had was that crazy octopus-looking headset for his journal entries?). It's crazy how things can change in such a short amount of time. I was just beginning to think that my human roommates might not kill me in my sleep, and now I was moving into another house where my roommates might still kill me in my sleep. They weren't supposed to, but who said we were the only ones breaking laws around the Aftermath?
Selene opened the door. "Right on time." she said with a fang-showing smile. She stepped aside and let us enter before she said "Follow me." and lead us up a grand staircase.
"This is insane." Ric hissed in my ear as we passed Thad Bloodz on our way up the stairs. "We're in a house full of vampires." It's safe to say Ric wasn't exactly feeling the idea yet.
"A house full of vampires who can hear you." Selene said from her place in our lead.
Ric blushed and mumbled a "Sorry" that I was sure Selene was able to hear. We turned down a hallway lined with doors.
"Remember your room is the fourth one down, to the right." Selene said, opening the door as we got to it.
"Who lives in the rest of these rooms?" Ric asked, as there had to have been at least a hundred.
"Vampires are immortal, remember?" Selene said. "I've got great, great, great, great grandparents still living here."
"Wow..." Ric breathed in amazement, and Selene laughed.
"It's not that amazing." she insisted.
"Maybe when you're used to having all you're relatives." Ric mumbled bitterly, and Selene winced slightly.
"Sorry." she said.
Ric shrugged. "Used to it." he said.
"Well, here's your room. I'll let you get settled." Selene said before she slipped out.
Ric and I walked into our room. A warlock must have enchanted that house because the room was a lot bigger than it ever could have mathematically been. There were two beds, two closets, two sets of drawers, and two nightstands. It was all red, of course, but I had a large suspicion that it was because the Bloodz family color was red. Like I said before, fitting, but creepy.
Ric threw himself on his bed. "Well," he said as he assessed the comfort of the bed. "this might not be as bad as I thought." I rolled my eyes at him. "What?" he asked.
I chuckled. "Ric, just go to bed." I said, throwing a pillow at his head before going to bed myself.
At two in the morning, an alarm I'd set sounded, and Ric and I woke up. "Ready?" he asked, looking at me, and I nodded.
"Ready."
We shifted into oxygen gas. This was generally a very good sneak tactic, but it was also very dangerous. You couldn't tell which body parts were which, and if someone breathed you in, that's it. I once lost an entire clump of hair like that. But these were vampires, and they didn't breath.
Ric and I floated outside and towards the Penz, completing phase one of the plan we'd quickly thrown together before we'd left for Selene's house. While I wasn't nearly as cynical as Ric, I wasn't too fond of spending an entire night in a house of vampires either. So in the dead of night, we were going to the Penz. We really just needed Selene's house as an official excuse, a cover story.
