Chapter 9 Catwalk

*Katie's POV*

I walked down the school hallway, anxious to find the vans. Jansu had texted me earlier in class that Yunmin, Taehyun, and her had to go to a soccer game her brother had today, explaining why they weren't there. I felt awkward and nervous walking in the school without my friends. *I hope I don't see Baehyuk.* I thought.

I heard fighting somewhere in the hall, but no one was. *Maybe it's in a classroom.* I tried to ignore the noise, but it just kept getting louder. I took a turn into the catwalk hallway, and stopped. Baehyuk and some other boys were standing over Jaeshi, who's lip was bleeding. The girl from yesterday, who's name is Taylor, was standing there watching the boys fight, her clique of Soohyeon and Hye Mi standing behind her.

I started to turn around, when Taylor called me. "Yah new girl! Come here a moment, won't you?" Unwillingly, I turned around. Instantly, the girls were around me. Two of the boys looked at me from where they stood. I realized the taller one was the one who had almost caught me yesterday. "Yah, who do you think you are? Prancing around with Taehyun and Yunmin like that."

I cocked my head. What? As far as I knew they both were single. "Um, sorry, but I never asked the two to hang out with me."

"And you shouldn't." Taylor glanced down at my new copy of the Welcome Back dance paper. "Ha. You're honestly not thinking about going to the dance, are you? Who would even ask a thing like you?"

I glared at her. "Ah, let me guess. Your going to the dance with Taehyun and Yunmin?"

"Well, naturally." Taylor pointed a perfectly primed finger at me. "What, you thought that since those two follow you and that Jansu, you thought one of them would go to the dance with you?" I balled my fist and looked past the 3 girls. Baehyuk looked at me from where he stood. A crooked smile spread across his lips.

"Yah. That was a cute trick yesterday, playing cat and mouse with us." Baehyuk started to walk towards me, and I tensed. "I wasn't done playing." He pushed past Taylor and her clique, smiles on their faces. I felt fear creep into my chest.

Suddenly, Baehyuk's tall, muscled figure fell to the floor in front of me. Jaeshi stood in his place, lowering his foot. Baehyuk let out a growl and picked himself up. He swung himself around and punched Jaeshi in the side of his face, sending him to the floor. "Yah!" I yelled. Baehyuk looked at me while standing above Jaeshi. Without thinking, I pushed past Baehyuk and helped Jaeshi to his feet, and led him by his wrist outside the school.

I stopped. "Are you alright?" I asked Jaeshi. He looked down towards the ground and nodded. "Really? You don't need to go to the nurse?"

"I'm fine." Without looking up, Jaeshi walked past me, down the stairs, and out the school gates. Realization struck me on what I had just done. I looked at the catwalk that connected the two main buildings.

Taylor was talking with Baehyuk. *I think I'd better find the van.* I looked past the gates for the large, black van, and spotted it halfway down the side walk. I ran down the stairs, through the gates, and down the sidewalk to the van, and opened the van door.

Yesung, Ryeowook, Siwon, Hangeng, and Kangin were watching me as I climbed in the van and took my seat. "Hi." I said. It took them a few moments till they said hi back.

Yesung took the Welcome Back dance from my hand as Kangin pulled out. "Oh, your school is having a dance?" I nodded. "We'll need to find you a dress for that while we're shopping tonight."

I didn't really know what to say except, "Okay."

*Yesung's POV*

We had been sitting in the parking spot for not even 2 minutes when Hangeng hyung noticed something. "Yah, look in the catwalk." All of us looked at the glass hallway. A group of boys were beating up another boy, with 3 girls watching.

"Aish. I hate it when they do that." Kangin said bitterly. "Showing off for girls by beating a kid."

About a minute passed when I saw a girl who looked out of place step into the catwalk. "Oh, it's Katie." She paused and turned around to walk away, but slowly turned around and walked towards the 3 girls. "What are they doing?" The girls with the dyed brown hair pointed at Katie as she spoke.

By now, all of the boys were watching them. A tall boy with a muscled frame started walking towards the girls. "I bet this is what's wrong at school." Siwon mumbled from shotgun. The boy stepped past the 3 girls in front of Katie. Movement caught my eye, and I saw the boy that had ben beaten by them run up behind the other boy and knock him over by kicking his back.

"That wasn't a good idea." Hangeng hyung mumbled.

I turned around and looked at him. "What do you mean? He just helped Katie!"

Hangeng hyung looked back at me calmly. "I mean, that other boy will be mad and try to hurt him back." He looked through his window again. Fuming, I did the same. The boy who had been knocked over stood up quickly and punched the other boy in the face, sending him to the ground. "You see what I mean?" Hangeng hyung said. I ignored him.

Before the boy could throw another punch, all of them stopped and watched as Katie pushed past the boy, and helped the other up, leading him out of the catwalk. A moment later, Katie and the boy came out the main doors. They stood there for a few moments before the boy walked down the steps and off of school grounds, Katie quickly following his lead.

I scootched over to the other window seat when Katie opened the door and came in. "Hi." She said a bit hesitantly. I realized I had been staring at her, and said hi back.

As Kangin pulled out into the streets, I saw a paper in Katie's hand. I quickly snatched it from her and read it. It was for the dance. Acting like I didn't know about it, I said, "Oh! Your school is having a dance?" She nodded. "We'll have to get you a dress for that while we're shopping tonight."

"Okay." Was all she said.
