Can't Help Falling in Love

Ch. 11

I look back at him and smile as I make my way towards him.
I also spot April watching us from afar.

"I'm not avoiding you Mason." I touch his shoulder and run my index finger down his chest.
I look up at him and his eyes meet mine. He then lowers his gaze towards my lips, watching them intensely.
It makes my world stop and for a moment the both of us are lost in a trance.

"I called you the night after the fight broke out with April." he says as he clears his throats and runs his fingers through his hair.

I take a step back.

"What for?" I pause for an answer but no a word comes out of him.
"It's not like you care about me Mason."
I shrug and push past him to the water fountain to refill my bottle.
"Plus April is your girlfriend.. I'm sure she wouldn't like you looking after me instead of her." I snap.

"Sophie it's not like that. I..." April cuts him off by sticking her tongue down his throat.
I gag a bit.

Mason pulls always almost immediately.
"What are you doing with the skank?" She wraps her arms around him.
His face turns a bright pink and pulls her to the side so that she's not blocking his view my way.

"Says the one that wore that skimpy costume and had no respect for Mason." I say with a giggle.
Aprils eyes land on him as if she's waiting for Mason to defend her.
Not a word leaves his lips.
They both just stand there awkwardly.
I turn without saying goodbye and make my way back to class and join Kaity and Vivs.

Mason's POV:
I watch as Sophia walks away, my heart slumps a little.
April's still gripping on to my side like a parasite.

"Get the fuck off me April." I say to her.
She looks back at me upset but doesn't argue, instead she complies and let's me go.
What am I doing? I don't love April.. at least not anymore.

"But baby why? I love people knowing that you're mine." she says as she leans over to kiss my cheek.

"How many times do I have to tell you I'm not your property April?" My laugh slips out.
Her face scrunches up into a frown and brings her face closer to mine.

"I promised you I was going to do everything to show you that what I did wasn't me. I was drunk." she says.
April slams her lips against mine hungrily but I just stand there awkwardly until she finishes.

Sophia's POV:
Coach Dennis let's us go 15 minutes before the bell rings to give us time to change.
Kaity, Vivian, and I scurry back to the lockers. I can't wait to take a quick.
After our rinse we get dressed and head out for Nutrition.

"Should we wait for the guys?" asks Kaitlyn.

"Well I'm really hungry." frowns Vivian.

"Go ahead babes. I'll go look for the guys and we'll meet you at our spot okay?" I say.
They don't think twice of it and make their way to the cafeteria.
I walk towards the guys locker room.
I can hear some arguing happening by the side of the building.
I walk to the side where the water fountain is and pretend I'm drinking water.

"I already told you it's dangerous to go there. You want to get caught by the cops or risk losing your life over a couple of thousands you already have at home?" One of the guys says.

"I don't give a fuck man, I love fighting. No matter what you tell me I'm not going to stop." the second voice says before leaving.

"You know Aiden Fiore can't be beat right?!" the first guy yells back at him.

My balance gets thrown off and I have to regain it by holding onto the fountain.
Did he just say Aiden Fiore can't be beat?
And fighting? I wouldn't be surprised seeing as he's always loved to start shit and get into fights.

"Sophs??" Michael's voice distracts me from my thoughts.

"Oh hey." I say as I hug him.
"Are you ready? The girls are waiting for us."

"Yup. Just waiting on Mason and Aiden to finish talking to Nathan about their schedule." he says.

My mind is racing and I don't know whether or not to mention to him what I just heard. He is Aiden's best friend though, he deserves to know.

"Mikey, I think Aiden is fighting for money." I look at him and study his face.
His eyes look at the floor and avoid mine.

"I know Sophs.. I've gone with him once or twice." his hand goes to his neck and rubs it.
I feel blood rush all over my body and my hands start to shake.

"And you don't care to fucking mention it to me? You know how much I fucking care for Aiden.
He can die Michael, why didn't you say shit!!?"  Now my hands are shoving him against the wall.

"Woah Sophia, what's going on here?" Aiden says pulling me off of Michael.

"Get off me Aiden!" I push him off and he falls on his ass.

"What the hell is wrong with you Sophia??" Aiden looks pissed, but I ignore it and keep walking past them.
"Don't even think about coming near me." I say to them.
I make my way to the girls and regain myself before they see how upset I was.
We start talking about the cheerleading routine and just eat. Most of the time I'm quiet but I smile here and there so they won't think I'm mad or anything.

The bell rings, and we get up to head to class.
Michael and Aiden don't even dare to look my way.
I don't want to speak to them.
I need to find out more about these fights.
My phone starts to vibrate which startles me, I reach into my pocket and see that Nathan texted me.

Nathan: Hey beautiful, I hope your day is well. 😍
Me: Thanks Nathan, I hope yours is too 😚
Nathan: See you later.

His text makes me smile but I can't have a good day.
Finding out that someone I care about is doing some illegal shit that can also get him killed and the person closest to me finds out and doesn't say shit to me?
Fuck them.
Now I wonder if Nathan does that too.

The day comes to an end with art class, I'm left alone since the girls have film.
I hesitantly make my way towards my seat and avoid Michael as much as I can.

"Sophia." Nathan says.
I turn back around and see Mason coming out, April runs and jumps on him and gives him a kiss.
Jealousy kicks in and I don't think twice about my actions.
I grab Nathan's face and plant a kiss on his lips.
Let's see how Mason likes it.
