Chapter Six:
"Ugly."
NARRATOR:
The air was tense. Silence fell over the three people, who stood there staring at each other. Akira was first to break the silence, seeming tired and almost fed up. She sighed turning around and walking back into Kai's condo. She ran her fingers through her loose curls, plopping down into the nice black couch that was made available in Kai's living room.
The two men stood stuck in their spots, both staring at each other with questioning gazes. Kai's once confused stare was turning fierce and blank. His jaw clenched before he opened the door wider, gesturing for Chresanto to enter. Chresanto cleared his throat stepping in slowly. The friendly atmosphere he was looking forward to was now fading.
Kai closed the door, walking past Chresanto to sit beside Akira, who was staring down at the drink she had in her hand.
"If you don't mind me asking, how do you two know each other?" Kai asked, looking back and forth between the two adults, who were visibly uncomfortable with the situation at hand.
Chresanto shoved his hands in his pocket, taking his eyes eyes off Akira who was refusing to make eye contact.
"Akira is the old flame I've been telling you about." Chresanto answered bitterly, his eyes flickering to his confused friend. His gaze didn't stay on Kai for long, shifting back to Akira who was now staring back at him. Staring isn't even the correct word. Glaring, would be more accurate.
Kai's eyes darted back and forth before he started laughing, taking Chresanto by surprise. Akira stood up with the glass cup in hand ready to pour herself another glass.
"This is kind of funny isn't it?" Kai said as his chuckles died down, "Akira is the girl you're trying to win back and she's also the woman I'm trying to win over. Wow. Someone give God points for this, cause it sure is interesting."
"God can't seem to let me catch a break." Akira stated from her spot in the kitchen as she poured herself some more sparkling cider. She was speaking to Kai, who chuckled at her comment. The corner of her lips pulled up into a smile at Kai's reaction, and for second she forgot Chresanto was there as she held eye contact with Kai.
Chresanto on the other hand was growing irritated. The woman that his dear friend Kai was so crazy about Akira? His Akira? His mind was racing too fast for him to keep while he strived intensely to keep his cool while the other two in the room made googly eyes at each other.
"Excuse me? I'm still here remember?" He called out, his angry making itself clear in his tone. Kai looked back at Chresanto, still smiling cheerfully like usually.
"What's up?" Kai asked casually, as if not aware of the problem.
Chresanto's face scrunched up in response, "What do you mean what's up? What are we going to do about this?" He spoke moving his hands between him, Kai and Akira.
"What are we supposed to do?" Akira questioned, walking back from the kitchen, her business face on. That same expression that should little to no emotion.
Chresanto chuckled humorlessly, "I mean come on Jongin. You can't date Akira." It's clear things were getting serious. Kai's real name was used. The smile on Kai's face stayed in place, but the emotion in his eyes transformed. Though the smile was there, his eyes suddenly took on a threatening glaze.
