Authors note: Ignore that the characters backgrounds are wrong. This is Fan Fic, I call the shots :D     Excuse the terrible Human Torch reference. I think Pyro sounds better... let me know which it should be, cause otherwise he'll just stay Pyro.

Memories

Four years ago

It was a few years back when I was 15. It was the first year of Mutant School for me, and I didn't fit in at all. I didn't mind the first few weeks, but two terms in I was really starting to let it get to me. I didn't have any friends, and people were starting to bully me. That was the day Rogue joined my class. She didn't have any friends either, so we immediately clicked. We started hanging out together, and it wasn't long until she used her power on me to illustrate some sort of point of hers. It wasn't bad, and I didn't get hurt, but from that point on I was immune to her. So she decided she'd constantly bombard me with her poison until that one day I spent ages throwing up, like I already told you.

But funnily enough, that isn't why I got sent to Jean and Hank's hole of hell. No, that was for a very different reason that barely involves Rogue. But it did, and it happened in the third term of my first year, one term after meeting Rogue. We were sitting on the grass field when Bobby and John came up to us. Of all the mutants, I could get along with them. They didn't hate me like the rest. Then again, we were the youngest of the lot, at least a year younger than the next youngest class, so as a general rule the four of us stuck together. It was better than being beaten up by the (then in their late teens) younger versions of Wolverine, Collosus or Juggernaut.

Anyway, so Bobby and John joined us while we were sitting in the field. We talked about things - that I can't remember anymore - for a while, until we stumbled onto the unfortunate topic of abilities. Of course, it was the usual debate. Cryo or Pyrokinesis?

"Burning stuff isn't handy," said Bobby, who was the shortest of the lot. He's much taller now, but he hadn't hit his growth spurt yet and was at least a head smaller than all of us.

"Yes it is," said John, leaning against the tree Rogue and I were sitting under. "Fire doesn't melt."

"Neither do I! I can take you on easy. Besides, I can freeze people and bring them back to life. You can't do that," said Bobby.

"I didn't say you melted. Stuff you freeze does."

Bobby snorted. "Yeah. Well. You're power has no lasting effects."

John scoffed and laughed sarcastically. "Burns? Duh."

Bobby's face fell, but he wasn't going to let up. "It's easier to kill someone with ice than with fire. And you can't turn yourself into fire, but I can turn myself into ice."

You could tell he wanted to add "Suck on that, bitch!" but he didn't.

"Pssh. I don't want to kill people -much- and I CAN set myself on fire," retorted John. "In fact I've even come up with a new name."

Bobby's mouth fell open in shock, as did mine and Rogue's. Rogue was the first to recover.

"Well? What is it then?" she asked.

John smiled. "My new name will be...."

He paused for effect. "The Human Torch."

After a short silence, Bobby started laughing hysterically.

"What? It's not that bad!" protested John.

"I-it's.... t.....t....terri-b-ble!" laughed Bobby, going purple.

We thought it was funny at first, and we laughed along with Bobby. But then, as the novelty wore off and Bobby's laughing got less, he started coughing, not really being able to breathe. John's face fell and he dropped down the ground, as Bobby had too. He grabbed Bobby's arm, then pulled it back in a reflex action, cursing loudly. Rogue and I couldn't see anything wrong with him.

"What?" asked Rogue, her voice having a worried edge to it.

"Bobby's gone.... cold. Really cold, almost -" started John.

"Yeah, I'm gonna stop you there before you say 'ice cold', dick," said Rogue.

Even given the horrible situation, I still snorted. Rogue rolled her eyes.

"I'm not Dick, he is," said John, pointing to me.

"Oh, haha," I said sarcastically. "You started Bobby off, so you can't talk."

Bobby was still coughing, although it had gotten a bit less. Rogue sighed.

"Boys. Take your argument somewhere else, please. Bobby's first priority here. In fact, he's the only priority. So unless you're gonna help, sod off," she said.

"I'll go get help," I said.

"By help, d'you mean 'the lab folk'?" asked Rogue.

"N-no..." I lied.

"You stay here. Bobby's frozen you before, you're immune," ordered Rogue.

Can you see where this is going? It all went downhill from there, for me and for Bobby.

"G-g-go!" spluttered Bobby.

Motivated by Bobby's words... or, word.... John ran off to get help.

"Hurry back!" shouted Rogue.

She got the middle finger from John in reply.

"What a dick. I'm gonna go with him, just in case... things happen," said Rogue, running off as well.

I sighed, not happy at being left alone with a boy who could turn into a block of ice at any moment. That was the only thing that hadn't happened yet, while I'm at it. Bobby hadn't iced over yet, which I took as a good thing. He turned to look at me in a sort of desperate way, and it creeped me out.

"What?" I said, slightly irritated.

Bobby shook his head and closed his eyes. He looked like he was in pain, trying to concentrate on staying in normal form.

"Can I..... help?" I asked, uselessly.

"No," spat Bobby.

This worried me. Bobby tended to get angry just before freezing over. Or maybe it was the other way around? Either way, it was bad news.

"There's no way they're gonna get back in time," I whispered, more to myself than to Bobby.

Even so, Bobby still nodded in agreement.

"Come on," I said, sticking my hand out to Bobby.

He hesistated.

"Well, it ain't gonna hurt me," I said, impatiently.

Bobby sighed, then grabbed my hand. He was freezing cold, and I groaned in agony. I immediatly started to lose feeling in my arm. I may be immune to it, but while I was still subjected to the ice there was no way my body could repair itself. That was going to have to wait. As I dragged Bobby up to the mansion, panting and moaning, I could feel him starting to ice up.

"Bobby, don't do this. Not now," I said through gritted teeth. "We're almost there, please hold on."

Bobby was miraculously still coughing, although I was pretty sure he should have been in control of his power by now. This was worrying, and it probably guaranteed him days in the hole of hell.

Jean and Hank, who were both 17 at the time, appeared in the doorway. Jean was telekinetic so she could get Bobby inside without touching him. I was losing conciousness, and as I felt Bobby being lifted off me, I blacked out.
