Chapter 1: Words

Kanan's Pov.

I was meditating beyond the sensor marker fence when I heard the Ghost land on the landing platform. I shook of the little bugs that had crawled on me and made my way towards the base. Once I got there, I could tell that there were people congratulating Ezra, Zeb, and Sabine.
Hera walked down the ramp and patted Ezra's shoulder. "Nice job guys!" She smiled. But when she noticed me, her smile disappeared. I heard her walk back inside the Ghost.
I could tell the rest of the crew felt awkward right then. Chopper and Sabine left really fast and Zeb went for a walk. Ezra went inside his cabin to do something.
I decided to go talk to Hera. Ever since Malacore, she's been acting strange around me. I wanted to know why.
I walked into the cockpit to hear Hera tinkering with the dashboard.
"Ok," I said, startling her. "What's wrong with you? You never seem happy around me. You always frown when you see me. What's the matt-"
"What's the matter? WHAT'S THE MATTER?! Oh I don't know! Maybe the matter is is that you came back blind! That you are blind! Maybe the matter is is that you didn't keep your promise!" Hera yelled at me.
"Hera what promise did I not keep?! And also, you should be thankful that I'm just blind! Maul would've killed me if he had had the chance!" I yelled back at her.
Her tone got quiet, but it still had anger behind it. "You promised me we would see each other again."
My face paled as I had forgotten. I had no idea that I was never going to see her normally again.
"Hera-"
"You idiot Jedi!"
"HERA WHAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?! I COULD'VE BEEN KILLED!"
"Caleb you inconsiderate, stupid Jedi! Your world is nothing without me! And now you will never again have me in it." Hera said in a stone cold voice.
After that, tears welled up under my eye mask. My heart felt like it had shattered into a million pieces. Did she really mean that? I didn't take the time to find out. I ran out of the room. I ran beyond the sensor marker fence. I ran to a patch of land that had small rocks surrounding it. I screamed and pulled out my lightsaber. I attacked the rocks as if they were my worst enemies. I soon just started swinging my saber around wildly while screaming. I finally threw my lightsaber on the ground and collapsed against a burnt rock. I curled into a ball and threw my green eye mask over by my lightsaber. I started sobbing into my knees. I felt like the entire galaxy was against me.
I stayed there through the night after I had eventually cried myself to sleep.
