Terra gets back around six, five hours after DC had me home. DC smiled at her but she only glared at him. I sit up, having enough energy to do that now and frown. I expect her to give me some explanation of her whereabouts but I had no such luck. Finally after seeing her walk back and forth throughout the house, ignoring me nonetheless, I couldn't take it.
"Where were you Terra? Why weren't you there when it was over? When I needed you? Why did you leave me alone," I ask getting hurt for the first time in a long time. Yes, she always had my back and if she ever needed it, I'd hers. We always were there for each other when it came down to it so why was it different this time? She sighed before turning around and crossing her arms.
"I was busy," she says.
"Doing what exactly? What was so important that you left me in the middle of that field all by myself?"
"DC was with you wasn't he," she said.
"Yes, but--"
"Then that's not alone. You had your pet with you so I don't see the problem," she says. I can feel myself getting mad again this time at the one person I should never be mad at.
"DC is not a pet. Why are you so rude to him all the time? Since day one you've had a grudge against him and you haven't even smiled at him or said anything pleasant to him," I say.
"It's ok--"
"It's NOT okay DC. It's not okay at all. She needs to explain everything, to both of us," I say. Her eyes narrow.
"I need to explain? What about YOU? I've trusted you since day one and you have so many secrets. It took me nine years for you to tell me you had three affinities but you told this prick in less than twenty four hours. You didn't talk to me for months when I tried to be your friend, but you go on jogs and talk to him almost everyday. I bet he doesn't know that you cried your first semester because you knew you wouldn't fit in anywhere. Does he know you couldn't say 'articulate' and 'photograph' without becoming a stuttering mess until I helped you. Does he know that you don't believe in soulmates and even if you had one you'd never accept him? By the look on his face I think not."
My face is hot but I'm not mad or embarrassed. I'm shocked. She was jealous of DC.
But why? He could never replace her. Why did she think he could?
"Is that what you really think," I ask. I knew I didn't have the energy but I had the will to stand up and I did.
"Take it easy Anani," DC said standing up just in case I needed him. I give him a small smile but turn my attention back to Terra. I take a deep breath.
"My name is Ananius Dakota Soul. I'm seventeen years old. I--"
"What are you doing," Terra asked but I kept on talking.
"--can control four affinities, water, earth, fire and spirit. Spirit was my first affinity and my strongest. I can also control some powerful Ancient magic. I am a direct descendant of Orion Soul, daughter of King Nathan Sattori-Soul and Queen Mahogany Storm, only known heir to the Northern kingdom, and I am so sorry Terra. I'm sorry for lying and keeping secrets from you but this is a big deal and I'm sorry I didn't trust you enough to tell you," I say, exhausted. "This is the most important thing to me because if anyone ever found out, I'd be forced to take the throne. I'd have all these responsibilities and no one the to guide me. I wouldn't have a parent to show me how it's done. I have no siblings to tell me right from wrong. I have no one that can help me figure this power out and it's scary that i can do something no one else can. People would fear me and fear leads to hate and hate leads to action. I didn't want anyone to be scared of what I can do so I kept it hidden. I keep myself hidden so no one that I love will get hurt."
After getting over his initial shock, DC walked and stood behind me his hands on my waist to keep me balanced. I feel myself physically and mentally relax as soon as he's by my side.
"So you're Princess Anani Soul," DC asks.
"No. I'm just Anani. I've always been and I always will be," I say directed to Terra. Terra stood still, giving me her cold stare before rolling her eyes.
"Yeah I know," and I smile. "But I still don't like him. Do you know who he is, really," Terra asks.
I roll my eyes as DC tenses up.
Yes, he told me. Terra, I think he's my soulmate, I sign to Terra. Her eyebrow arches before she sighs.
"So I have to get used to him?" She asks. I nodded and she sighs before saying fine. I smile again as Terra comes to hug me.
"What just happened," DC asks. Terra and I laugh before she turns to DC.
"Nice to meet you your highness. My name is Terra Nova and I'll have to get used to you," she says. His eyes get big as he watches me and I nod with a smile. He sighs in relief.
"Prince Dylan Cornelius Knight at your service, Terra Nova. I really hope that you both can get used to me."
"I'll try. By the way," Terra says turning around to me slowly. "I found my mom."
My eyes get big and a grin starts to grow on my face.
"Terra REALLY?!?! When," I ask.
"It was three years ago," she says and I freeze. Three years?
"But--"
"But I didn't want to move out. I love being your roommate and having our own apartment. I wouldn't change anything that's happened Anani. But lately she's been sick so anytime she called I'd rush over to Central Point hospital. That's where I was today. I'm sorry I didn't tell you," she says.
"But how would you know? You don't have a phone for--"
She takes out a phone from her back pocket.
"Oh."
Well then.
"Anani," she said wearily. Terra sounded worried and Terra never sounds worried so I knew she meant it. I shrug it off and smile. I had my secrets, she had hers, and now we have each others.
"I'm happy for you," I say. She sighs in relief. After a while DC clears his throat.
"Well, I guess I should go," he says standing up.
"You're not going to give her a goodbye kiss," Terra says. My eyes get big as he turns to look at me. His face is expressionless as he looks at mine. He smirked before walking over to me and stops when we're less than a foot apart. He takes his hand and tilts my chin up to where my eyes are facing his. He leans down to where there's an inch between our lips before kissing me on my cheek instead.
"Night cupcake," he whispered in my ear before backing up, a smile still on his face, before turning and leaving.
"Woah,"Terra says, her arms crossed, "that was hot and it wasn't even an actual kiss. You should have high hopes for the future." I feel myself turn even more red from her words.
"Terra I said I think he's my soulmate, not he IS my soulmate," I say. She raises her arms by her side.
"My bad. My sign language is a bit rusty. Besides what do you mean you think? If you haven't kissed him then how do you know," she asked. I shrug.
"I don't know. I just feel it. "
Terra nod her head.
"Perks of spirit magic huh?"
I roll my eyes and smile. Terra helps me off to bed and just before I fall asleep my landline rings.
"Yeah?"
"Night beautiful," DC says. I smile.
"Goodnight Dylan."
"Sweet dreams Anani.
