Even though women were meant to do housework, Cyndi Lauper didn't think so. She was the kind of girl that just wanted to have fun. She liked to go out and party with her friends all the time. She didn't come home until late, so her mom got stuck doing all the housework while her dad just went out with his friends and drank beer.
One time, Cyndi came home in the morning light while her mom was cooking breakfast.
"Cyndi Lauper! Get in here now!" Her mom yelled. Cyndi runs to the kitchen.
"What is it, mother?" Cyndi asked not even concerned.
"Where were you? Why didn't you come home last night?" Her mom said while still making breakfast.
"Chillax, mother. I was just out partying with my friends. One of them invited me to stay at her house, so that's what I did." Cyndi said calmly.
"Why didn't you call me and tell me that then?"
"I didn't have enough money to call you on a payphone. Relax, mother. I'm fine."
"Cyndi, I swear. You need to stop partying all the time and do some housework around here like a woman should."
"I'm not a woman. I'm a girl."
"Oh, Cyndi. When are you gonna live your life right?"
"Mother, you and I know that we are not the fortunate ones. Besides, girls, they wanna have fun. All girls just wanna have fun."
"Whatever, Cyndi."
After that, Cyndi went to her room to change and came back into the kitchen to help her mother cook the rest of breakfast. Cyndi actually took the time that day to actually act like a woman like her mother told her. When it was around midnight, the home phone rings. Cyndi went to go see who it was. Before she could do that, Cyndi's dad came out.
"Cyndi, don't you dare."
"Why? It's probably just a friend of mine."
"I don't care."
"She's probably just wondering where I am at. I was going to tell her that I was helping mom out this week. Don't worry about it, daddy."
"Cyndi, you need to stop going out to parties all the time. You need to stay here and do some housework like your mother and every woman should do."
"It's like I told her this morning, I'm not a woman. I'm a girl."
"Well, you need to start acting like a woman. You are getting to that age where you are going to meet a man and you will marry him and while he's out doing what he wants, you will be keeping the house clean."
"What if I don't want to marry him? What if I don't want to even date boys?"
"Then what are going to do with your life?"
"Maybe I want to party all my life, daddy. I don't want to marry someone who wants me to just stay in then house all the time. You know, some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world. I want to be the one to walk in the sun."
"CYNDI LAUPER! FROM NOW ON, YOU WILL NOT PARTY ANYMORE!" Her dad shouted.
"And what gives you the right to take over my life?" Cyndi snapped back.
Her dad started growling and tried to grab her by the throat, but Cyndi bended over and caught her dad's arm and pushed him against the wall with one of his hands behind him.
Then Cyndi said, "You think I don't know how to fight a man? Daddy, remember this. You know you're still number one, but girls, they want to have fun. All girls just wanna have fun."
She let her dad go and he stared at her for a second and ran back into his room. Cyndi picked up the phone and called her friend. After that day, Cyndi Lauper changed everyone's opinion to let girls want to have fun.
