Nothing I Have Ever Wanted

The pain.
it courses through your veins like its on fire,
colourful ashes burning through your flesh.
It tightens your heart like a well-used stress ball
with pieces floating away like pebbles in a waterfall.

Tears threaten to fall out of your hurt-filled eyes
as your soul cries out the way songbirds shriek
your mind goes blank as you find the words
to this song called life you have to sing.
All this, from the pain.

If only people weren't like this.
If only people wouldn't go around
spouting foul words from their filth-kissed mouths
then maybe i wouldn't be sitting in this cold dark cell
with nothing i have ever wanted.
But oh well.
