Reiko's (Aoi) POV
I decided since it's still early In the day, that'll I'll start the renovations. I began with the basics: cleaning.
Telling by the amount of dust the cabinets and other things had accumulated, it's easy to say no one's been here for a while.
I searched around the house, and below the bathroom sink I found some cleaning supplies. I used some old rags I found abandoned in the bedroom as wash cloths.
I began to work cleaning the house. I mopped the floors, dusted counter tops and shelfs, and cleaned the windows.
I decided halfway through that I'll finish the house before I work outside. The house needed a nice trim and some color, but maybe when I have some money.
Time flew by and before I knew it, it was early evening. I was about to take a break when I heard a knock at the door. I was hesitant to open but, once I heard kotetsu's voice I calmed down.
I opened the door to see him smiling. "You really did something here today," he said as he looked around the house.
"Yeah, I needed a cleaner house than what it was." Kotetsu scratched his head and looked embarrassed. "I didnt mean it was your fault."
"I know but, it could have been in better condition." He looked away and turned a bit red. "If you need a job my aunt has a small dango shop outside the village."
I was taken back by surprise. "That'll be great but, you're being way too generous."
"Its nothing really. I'll show you where it is and maybe we can eat." I nodded and followed him out. I didnt want to sound ungrateful but, it seemed he was doing a lot for me.
He led the way and the dango shop was on the side of the road. It was a ten minute walk from my house and a thirty minute one from the village.
He introduced me to his aunt and said I was able to lend some of my help but, for a price. She laughed. "Of course she needs to be paid. I'm not going to take advantage of her."
I smiled and offered us a free meal. I tried to refuse but she insisted. As kotetsu and I waited, I smelled the dangos being made. We had some small talk; mostly because I was trying to hold back from him.
Why he was helping me and why Is he doing so much for me. Eventually the food came and we enjoyed it in silence. Once done he offered to walk me home but I refused.
"I'll be fine, besides you should be heading home too it's getting late." He nodded and bid me goodbye. I walked home alone and when I finally arrived it was night.
I entered the house and locked the door behind me. I took a quick look around and saw that the house looked eerie at night.
I quickly walked into the bedroom and locked that door behind me as well. I checked the bed and saw it was surprisingly clean compared to the rest of the house.
I changed my clothes, got into bed and fell asleep. I woke up the next morning and quickly took a shower and got dressed. She never told me what time but I expected at nine, when the store opened.
I practically ran out of the house and made my way to the shop. I made it there before nine and ran into the suntan as she was barely opening the store.
"Oh hello dear, I didn't expect you this early." She cheerfully said as she lifted the barrier that stopped intruders.
"Well I'd rather be early than late to work." I smiled and helped her start preparing for the day. Soon customers came rushing through the doors.
The day passed quickly. I served as a waitress taking orders and delivering food. It was enjoyable job. I was able to talk to people who I would have never met.
Some were ordinary folk with children, others were ninjas on their way to a mission, and some were just travelers, stopping for a bite.
I heard stories from lands I've never visited or heard of. I was asked a couple of questions myself, and I answered them easily and never going into much detail.
Once it turned six in the evening, I was told my shift was over. I was paid for the day and told to come back tomorrow around the same time.
I walked happily towards the village; I had a stable job along with a house, my planned worked out. I counted the money and saw i had enough for groceries and other things I might need later in the future.
I thought about going to the store and debated whether to spend it all or save some. But in the end decided just to buy necessary groceries.
Luxuries should be the last thing on my mind right now. I took my time walking the thirty minute stroll towards the village. I arrived at the gates expecting to see kotetsu, but he wasn't there.
I then realized he probably had a schedule and his shift was during the day. I walked around the village for a while, learning the layout.
I knew where the basics were: weapons store, supply store, grocery store, and some small restaurants and eateries.
I bought my food and headed back to the house. By the time I made it home it was well past seven o'clock. I loaded the food into the fridge and sat down on the floor.
I had no real furniture other than the bed, but I didn't want to create an indent by sitting too much.
I surveyed the dimly lit house and smiled. I'm going to make it great one day. It'll be beautiful, full of color, people, and some other things.
Once I earned enough money I'll turn it into my dream and then pay kotetsu for his kindness. I really wanted to figure out why he was so nice, but I didn't want to risk anything.
If it's important it'll come up eventually, right?
