"NYEH HEH HEH! GREETINGS!"
The stage lit up, revealing the figure onstage. Screams of excitement. Loud cheering.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, LITTLE GHOST?"
Her eyes widened upon seeing him. How had he found this place?
The music blaring was to be expected. She pressed the correct buttons and the lights flashed and swayed, black, pink, white.
There was nobody else in the lights crew. She had offered to do the job for a random artist's show, a cat, she believed.
She was capable of doing things herself, especially working out complicated patterns. Because as comples as they were, they were still patterns. They were easy. They made sense.
"ARE YOU HERE TO SEE METTATON, TOO?" he asked with a friendly smile. She flinched back despite his warm demeanor.
"Yes, actually," she finally said. "I. . . The two of us are close."
He didn't immediately ask you to introduce him. He merely looked in awe and then asked you more questions in his fun, bubbly voice.
They clicked far better than she'd ever expected; despite the fact that it was more of the other monster talking, they chatted on like old friends.. At last, her acquaintance stood up and bid her farewell.
"I'LL COME BACK!" He promised, and his grin was so radiant that she couldn't help but return it shyly, waving a stubby ghost hand.
"I'll be waiting."
He came back.
He was a puzzle all by himself and she hated it, she hated that she couldn't figure him out. But at the same, confusing time she loved it - she loved his innocence and pure naïveté, his kindness and confidence.
The show was finished. Abbiton ran out of the lights box to greet the singer, but she was hurrying off to her makeup room.
He kept returning. Every day, in that same spot on that bench with his stupid smile and kind words. And he eventually took her to wonderful places she would've been to frightened to explore without her brother. Beautiful expanses of snow and a canopied forest, a river of molten lava and memerizing machinery.
She never expected the day he promised, like always, that he would come back the next day.
"How was I, sister?" Mettaton asked.
"Just great, bro, you really rocked the stage with that other singer," Abby replied, winking. "How was the lighting down there?"
"Served its purpose well," he countered. Abby laughed and followed Alphys, who had been watching her banter with him, somewhere. "You two can go ahead, by the way!"
He never did come back. A week later, the human appeared. Abby lost all hope in finding him.
Abby made her way out of the backstage area, and in the curtain parting it from the rest of the concert hall, she bumped into a tall white monster.
