I don't remember much, but I remember the darkness. The very darkness I was afraid of. How scary it felt, being surrounded by darkness and feeling the everlasting emptiness that comes with it. I find it weird how empty it feels but how it also feels like something is watching your every move. I heard noises, too. Usually I tend to block them out but last night was different. They were louder than ever before. I couldn't take it anymore so I called out,"Who's there?" I didn't expect an answer. But I got one.  I heard my door creak open slightly then saw the shadow of what looked to be a boy the same age as me. Frightened, I shot up out of bed and whispered loud enough for the being to hear, "who are you? What are you?"
The being did nothing but laugh.
"I'm Dan." The being replied in a smooth voice.
I cowered into a corner and sat there in fear. I wasn't speaking, and my breathing became faster in seconds. He inched closer to me, reaching his hand out. I couldn't move or speak. I was frozen in terror.
"Take my hand, you idiot." Dan whispered, his face now close enough to see every detail. His brown fringe, his coffee brown eyes, his dimples. He looked safe. He didn't look like a monster or demon, or anything from the movies. He just looked safe. I began to calm down after seeing his face and my hand slid into his almost naturally and he pulled me up off the floor.
"Nice to meet you," he whispered, letting go of my hand. I can't remember what I said next, but it must have made him feel uneasy because he left soon after. Strangely, I hope he comes back tonight.
