in which a girl (girl a), who's a barista of a small cafe, sees this guy (who is an upperclassman to her at her school but she never talks to) coming to buy a large americano or red velvet cake or both (or whatever you want to get in a cafe) every single day. one day another girl (girl b), who is one of the girls from the upper year level who have a crush on the guy at school comes in and tells girl a to pick a random cake or coffee to give to the guy and girl b will pay for it. girl b also wants to slip in a piece of paper with her number into the tray. so girl a, knowing what the guy's reference is, picks them out and after girl b has paid, serves them to him. later on when he finds the phone number, he confronts girl a, thinking it's her who slipped her own number in because he fancies him. she tries to explain that it's girl b but he doesn't take any of it, still setting his mind on that being her number.
"you could've just told me you like me instead of subtly slipping in your number like that."
later on at night, he texts the number, still thinking it's girl a. girl b freaks out and texts him back. the next day, he comes to school and goes to the locker area for lower-classmen to wait for girl a (even though he pretends he's just casually there) (he saw her around before, knew she was a year below but never spoke to her). he sees her at her locker to smiling, he texts her, but her phone doesn't get a notification and as she's still organising her locker without even touching her phone, he gets a text back. that's when he knew he had embarrassed himself the other day by being a little too cocky.
