Going home

My father and I were the last ones to leave the funeral. There weren't many who attended, seeing as how the weather today was awful. It was freezing and would occasionally drizzle. I was shivering the whole time they buried her. The saddest part was Jen's father didn't even show up. They may have divorced , but they were married for seventeen years. What is love?

After the funeral, we made our way to the airport to catch our flight. I snuggled closer to my coat and sat waiting for our departure, while my father went to get us some hot chocolate. I watched all the people walking around, crying as they said goodbye, cheering with joy as they greeted each other, and others just walking silently.

My phone buzzed and I glanced down surprised to see I had a text. My dad literally just left, what could he want? I was in for a shock to see that it was actually from my mother.

Have a safe flight sweetie, I love you.

I just ignored her text and out my phone back in my pocket, as my dad began to approach with two steaming cups. He handed me one and took a seat beside me. I drank silently, while he talked to my grandmother.

"Mom, relax I'm sure she'll love the food." He chuckled before he began talking again, " we should be boarding in about half an hour. It's like a five hour ride. No mom, just relax. What!! No don't do that. You're over reacting, just get Cole to help you, I'm sure he won't mind. Alright, see you in a few hours, I love you too mom." He put his phone away before he began talking to me.

"She's so excited for you to be coming home. She's being all jittery." He laughed.

" I should be the nervous one. What if I'm not what she expects." I questioned insecurely.

"Don't worry, she'll love you. You're uncle Ronnie won't meet you until next week. Him and his wife are visiting the in laws with their little girl Claire." I just nodded.

"I don't to be nosey, but who's Cole? " I asked remembering him telling grandma to ask him for help.

"He's a year older than you. He lives next door with his grandmother and father. She's your grams best-friend and her son is sadly mine. We grew up together which makes him feel more like a brother. " He winked.

"Sienna, Hun it's time to get up the plane is landing." I opened my eyes and stretched. My back was killing me."Finally!! I've been trying to wake you up for five minutes now", my dad laughed.

"Sorry, I didn't know I was that tired." He just shook his head with a smile.

"Ladies and gentlemen this is your pilot speaking. We are now about to land, please remain in your seats. Thank you." The seatbelt signs above us was now lit up in red. The flight attendants began checking everyone to make sure they had their belts before making their way to the back and into their own seats. Soon after the plane began to go down.

After departing the plane, we made our way to find whatever luggage we had. After my dad found them all we made our way to the airport exit and walked outside.

"My friend is supposed to be here any minute, but he's always usually late."

True to his word,my dads friend arrived fifteen minutes late. The whole time waiting my dad cursed him out wondering why they were even friends to begin with. It was comical really.

"This fucker better hope he has a good reason to being so damn late." My father grumbled as we made our way to the car. Once we got closer his friend got out and helped him fit the luggage in the back.

"I really am sorry man, I got held up." He laughed after he saw my dads expression.

"What could possibly hold you up, I've been telling you for days at what time you were supposed to pick us up."

"So Cole and I had a little mishap and then he ended up needing to go to the hospital for a few stitches and so I dropped him off and came here." He rushed out.

"What kind of mishap ?"

"We were trying to help your mom fix her garden and I don't know how he fell through her glass table but he did. It was so damn funny." He laughed as he remembered.

"How are you laughing?" My dad asked incredulously.

"It was pretty funny. This must be Sienna." He came over to me and gave me a hug. "I'm Mark."

"Hi." What else was I supposed to say ?

"Anyways we better get going your mother is going crazy wanting to meet Sienna and we still have to go get Cole," he said as he made his way to the drivers seat.

"Alright let's go," my father said and with that we were in our way.
