I sat on the park bench and growled in frustration. Trust me to get lost! And to not take my phone with me! God knows what the time was, however the temperate felt like minus one hundred. Over dramatic, I know. I shifted in my seat until I was laying flat on my back, staring at the stars.
I thought back to a time at home when Chris had dragged me outside in the night and to the fort. I had been panicky about tripping in the dark but he never let go of my hand, and caught me almost half of the times I did trip up. I chuckled as I remembered that. We had laid side by side on the grassy field outside the broken building, watching the stars. That night was truly breathtaking.
What felt like hours later, I couldn't stop shivering. I sat up and hugged my knees to my chest in an attempt to savor some warmth. I had previously tried to find my way back to the hotel, but since I didn't know the area, and it was dark, it just got me even more lost.
"May I ask why a young lady like yourself is sitting alone in a park at this time?" A familiar sounding voice asked.
I knew I had heard it before, but I didn't know where from. Or if I could trust it. I turned to see who spoke, but due to the darkness, I could only make out a tall figure.
"She's here to be left alone, so go away." I said bravely.
OK, a total stranger, in a dark, unknown place just spoke to me. And I was alone. I was genuinely scared, no one was here to help me if he tried to murder me.
"You misunderstand my intentions." He chuckled in amusement.
"Well why don't you explain your... intentions then?" I scowled.
"You're small, young, and alone in the dark. You're either blatantly stupid or..."
"I'm lost." I grumbled. "And who are you to determine someone's intelligence? You seem to be walking around in the dark by yourself, too."
This person was cocky and seemed way too sure of himself. It was annoying, in all honesty.
"Because I was looking for you." He said simply but frustration was evident in his voice.
"Is that supposed to be some cheesy pick up line...?" I asked, wanting him to walk away and leave me alone.
"No, it's my way of saying shut up and come with me, Rose."
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" I snapped. "And how do you know my name?"
I leaped to my feet and took a couple of steps away from him. I knew I could run, but his legs were definitely longer than mine, so he'll catch me in no time. Fear laced with fury was coursing through my thoughts.
"Don't be difficult." He snapped back and grabbed my arm.
I shook my arm free and turned and sprinted as far away as I could across the field. I heard him growl something before quick footsteps came my way.
I was just climbing over a fence when an arm was wrapped around me and I was pulled back against him. I thrashed wildly, kicking his ribs and hitting his head rather feebly.
It was dark, he's tall, he chased me and grabbed me, I had the right to freak out. But I didn't scream; no one was close enough to hear so I saw no point in it. My thrashing got us both down on the grass. However, he knew exactly what to do and had me immobilized.
"Why can't you just leave me alone?!" I yelled.
"Because Lauren asked me to look for you! She called me, worried sick, I saw you sat at the park bench looking sad and stupid and assumed it was Rose. Now stop wasting my time and come back to the hotel!" He growled.
