Niall's POV:
I watched as Avalon's mouth dropped open, her jaw growing slack as she stared at the bouquet of tulips in my hand that I was holding out to her. I was perplexed by her reaction. I thought she would say a simple thank you and it would be over, but this...

"Um..." I trailed off and laid the flowers on her bed. She stared at me while I looked down at the floor. I was so confused.

After minutes of silence passed by, she finally asked, "Niall do you know what red tulips symbolize?"

"No..." I whispered. She let out a breath of relief and that perplexed me even more.

"I don't understand?" I started to say but she cut me off saying, "They symbolize undying love."

My breath hitched in my throat as my mind registered what she was saying. We could hear the ticking of the clock as a few awkward seconds passed by.

"Uh I need to get some fresh air." I whispered and turned on my heel to get out of the room before it could get anymore awkward. As soon as I stepped out of the hospital, I broke out into a run.

I could see my breath puff out before me in a smoke looking formation. The frosty air bit at my body. I could feel the drumming of my heart as it increased due to me running more. My legs burned from the running. I slowed down into a walk as I approached a small park. Trees surrounded me and my heart rate slowly declined. Two words echoed in my head repeatedly. Undying love.

I hadn't remembered what the flowers meant when I bought them. I remember studying about them, but at the time I was buying them I didn't...

Or had I?

In the back of my mind?


I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. There was no way. No way that I had feelings for Avalon. I was pretty sure I hated her.

Although... Whenever we touched, I got this weird feeling. A feeling I'd never experienced with any girl I'd dated. And I had dated a lot of girls. And the way her beautiful eyes always managed to entrance me...

No. This cannot be happening,

Suddenly, I felt a vibration in my pocket. I pulled out my phone and saw I was getting a call from an unknown number. I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, but answered the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey Niall?" I heard a female voice say.

"Yes, who is this?" I asked, even though I had an idea of who it was.

"This is Avalon. Where did you go?"

"Just needed some fresh air," I said awkwardly. "Where did you get my number?" I asked.

"Oh Sam gave it to me a while back." She answered.

"Oh..." I trailed off.

"Will you come back? I need to tell you something." Avalon whispered.

"Erm yeah. Sure." I replied. She whispered bye and we hung up. I trudged down to the hospital wondering what she wanted to talk about.
