*> I need my phone. Please.
< What happened to finding who I am?
> Do I have to beg for my phone?
< No.
> Then? What do you want?
> I'm being fairly nice to you right now, you should at least reciprocate.
< This is me being nice.
> Is this some kind of life lesson for me to stop drinking?
< Would you?
> I wouldn't drink again after tonight.
< Good.
> We're off the subject. I want my phone back.
< Sorry, love. It's still a no.
> How can I change your mind?
< Free lap dance?
> Ew, are you serious?
< I think someone's looking for you.

I frown, about to send him another message as someone pokes my shoulder.
I gasp, stepping away and dumping my old phone inside my bag before anybody can see it. No one would want to be seen with a Nokia in the 21st century, bare with me.
Thomas is standing before me, a crease between his eyebrows. "Eva, you okay? You look... lost."
Thomas is holding a pair of goggles, dangling them between his fingers. He's wearing the ridiculous swimsuit I tell him not to wear because it's embarrassing. I feel nauseous as I stare at him.
I try my best not to look around for my stealer.
He speaks again, "You've been distant ever since the party. Beach week just started!" He elbows me with an excited smile. "Come on! You always look forward to it! Let's go surf." He hands me a pair of swim goggles.
I look away, catching accidentally sight of my best friends. Amy and Ashton wave at me, standing beside the lemonade stand. "Eva!" Amy bellows. "Your favorite drink's waiting!"
I look back at Thomas who's watching me expectantly. He rolls his eyes at Amy's nonstop shouting. "Amy, she's surfing with me!" He looks back at me, muttering from the corner of his lips, "You're not even wearing your swimsuit. What's wrong?"
I know I probably look fazed. I'm wearing simple shorts paired with a loose shirt. I'm aware I'm not being myself. I love swimming and I love the beach, as I'm always at my utmost happiness around water and sun.
I bite my lip, feeling tears on the verge of my eyes. I shake my head, losing my voice in the process. "I—I'm sorry. I can't right now."
