FIVE
I glanced at the girl that was supposed to be watching me, she seemed to have no interest in being here what so ever. Her feet were on the desk and she was engrossed in the book that she was reading. Her hair was pulled up in a sloppy ponytail a few strands of it framed her face, she reminded me of someone I knew.
"So, Astrid is it? What is your last name?" I asked deciding to speak up. She glanced up from her book giving me a annoyed glance before responding.
"Scott. Aye, I am related to Scotty. No, I'm not 'is sister. I'm 'is niece " she responded very bluntly. She must have been asked those questions a lot because she said them with out even thinking, I was very intrigued by this girl. I remembered reading a file about this girl, she was one of the youngest graduates that Star Fleet had ever allowed to graduate.
"How peculiar your response" I mumbled to myself. She sighed irritatedly before returning to her book. I noticed that she was reading a Edgar Allen Poe book.
"You do know you can leave, I'm obviously not going any where" I said quietly. She curtly laughed before placing her book down.
"Oh, believe me. I know yer type. Please, I am not a wee lass that ya can easily get past. I've met lads like ya and they're all ta same, ya act all innocent then show yer true colors later when it's least expected."she growled crossing her arms over her chest.
"Men like me? I assure you there are only a few like me" I said cooly.
"Ya mean egotistical,a smart arse, cocky and thinking that yer indestructible. I dun think so! I believe there are plenty of ya " she scoffed. Sassy, this girl was extremely sassy.
"So, I've heard that you're the engineering genius who graduated from Star Fleet in two years, you must have a very superior intellect. Yes?" I said as I watched her. She snorted, brushing part of her bangs out of her face.
"So yer a stalker now, just great! Aye ,I am that lass. What's it to ya?" She said sitting back down and putting her feet on the desk. I smiled, at least this 'prison guard' had a sense of humor.
"Curiosity that's all. I understand the feeling of alone, having your loved ones taken away from you" I said softly. Her blue green eyes widened with fear and shock, her mouth opened as if she was going to say something then abruptly shut again. A faint reddish blush appeared on her freckled cheeks, her pale pink lips pressed into a line.
"I dun really think ya do." She said softly, her voice slightly faltered and I could tell she was having a hard time keeping it all together.
"So tell me, how is it that you differ from me Miss.Scott?" I asked coldly. Sparks of anger appeared in her eyes,
"First of all I dun believe I've murdered anyone, an second I'm not trapped in a cell like ya are. We are very different Mr.Harrison" she snapped standing up and angrily stalking over to the glass.
"I have reasoning behind what I did, my family was taken away from me Miss.Scott. I reacted in a way that would give Star Fleet the same pain that they caused me." I said. There was a more gentle look in her eyes as soon as I said that,
"Believe me I completely understand ya there, in fact the last part of my family was taken away earlier this week. But ya don't see me going on a psychopathic murdering spree." She mumbled gazing down at the floor, a tear rolled down her ivory cheek. She sniffled, turning away from me slightly.
"Never mind, ya probably dun care anyway" she said walking back to the desk. I had a feeling she had been though a lot of pain in her past years, but I couldn't find out what it exactly was.
"For one so young you have been through a lot haven't you?" I asked sitting down beside the glass. She remained silent for what seemed like the longest time before sighing.
"Aye, ya can tell I'm not like most kids my age" she said resting her chin in the crook of her eyebrow. She sighed and looked up into my eyes, she looked very sad.
"Indeed, you are very different. It makes one curious to know what made you that way" I said intrigued by what these things were.
"If yer expecting me to spill my life story that easily for ya, yer completely wrong" she said suddenly changing her mood as she pulled the book she was reading up.
There was a long moment of silence between us, I sighed being even more bored and thoughtful then before. Maybe, I could use this girl to my advantage. If I were to get on her good side maybe, just maybe she would assist me on my vengeance on Marcus.
"Aren't you a little young to be reading something so antique?" i asked glancing at her book.
"So, what's it to ya? I may be only nineteen but I 'ave a old soul" she said not even looking up from her book, I could tell her patience was waring very thing with me.
"By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule -
From a wild weird clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of SPACE -out of TIME.
Poe, Edgar Allan. Dreamland. 1845." I said quoting exactly where she was reading
"Wow...that was something special, you're voice is perfect for reading poetry" she reluctantly said glancing up at me.
I smiled slightly. It was going to be nice having the niece of the great uncle Scott on my side.
Kirk suddenly walked in the room.
"Why was there a man in that torpedo?" He said
