Prologue

Darkness. There was nothing except darkness. I was lying in a pool of blood on a dark and desolate alley.. I was alone….helpless…isolated from the whole world. It was cold. Though I can’t feel it coming, the wind blew. Silently telling me that this is the end; whispering secrets only the dead had heard. The world I was in wasn’t there anymore. I was thrown into a living abyss that consumed everything around me. There was nothing left but complete oblivion.

One by one the raindrops fell. As if it was a silent symphony especially for me, the cold wind blew along with them and sang in harmony. It was a final concerto for my death.

Is this all you are capable of? Are you going to die here, in a dirty alley? Die with this garbage?

I didn’t realize it at first but the voice that was talking was actually my own but it was different. There was a certain change in it. I don’t know what but I can feel it. There was a hint of anger, of killing intent in its tone. I guess I was talking to my subconscious.

I’m asking you. Do you really want to die here Zeke?

“No. Of course not! If I were to die, I’d at least take those bastards with me to hell!

Then what’s stopping you from doing that?

“I’m not…strong enough…”

Is that so? Do you want power, strength? Do you want to be invincible? I can give it to you, if that is what you truly desire…you need only ask…

The voice changed and had a much more sinister tone as every word was spoken. Suddenly, my whole body felt an agonizing pain. A hot searing pain that makes me feel as if I was about to burst. Something grey slithered from the corner of my eye. It stood over me and casted a slight shadow over my face. Whatever it was, it was something out of this world. I’ve seen many things that were “out of this world” over these past few days. But this time, it was different and I knew I wasn’t hallucinating.

Do you really want that power? It asked again.

“Yes, I…..want….power!” I said through heavy breaths.

Then take this, it said, and consider it a gift…from your ancestors.

Just then, a strip of lightning lit the sky as it fell, a roaring thunder along with it. The dark sky was illuminated by the sudden blaze it brought. My blood suddenly rose. I felt my emotions swirl within me. The happy memories I made with my family, the tragedy that befell upon us, and the faces of the bastards that were responsible for what happened to them.

It’s unfair. I didn’t deserve this fate. My family didn’t deserve to die. I will kill those bastards that killed them. I don’t care what it takes. I don’t care about the consequences. I…will….hunt them down!

Then everything went dark.
