V I O L E T
The next morning I was up and out before the sun had even begun to rise. These days only came every once in a while where I went out to watch the sunrise from the roof of the old shed we had at the way back of the farm. They were usually the days when I had a lot on my mind. It was quite the walk, but the morning air was calming so I didn't mind. I climbed the ladder at the side until I was seated atop the shed. Soon enough, the once dark sky was painted with bright orange hues. Normally, it would soothe me instantly. And although it was a gorgeous sight, I was still as stressed as ever about Bree and Jacob. At least she would be leaving as soon as she had gotten her "beauty sleep."
"Violet?" I heard my dad yell from a distance.
I realized I had been caught in my little secluded spot I had never shared with anyone. "Yes?"
I could hear his footsteps coming closer as he stomped across the grass, but when I turned around to greet him, I realized he wasn't the only one. A cheetah print robe was draped over Bree's tired body and even at 5:00 in the morning, she looked like a diva.
"What are you doing out here at this hour? You had me worried sick," He explained. "Bree told me she woke up and you were gone."
"I just wanted to watch the sunrise." I admitted.
Bree stood there with her arms folded. "Why?"
"I don't know..." I said, but only because my dad was there. If it was just her I would've told her off and to mind her own business.
"Well next time let me know before I panic, okay?" My dad said sternly and I nodded in response. He then walked back to the house, but unfortunately for me, Bree didn't follow.
She only came closer until she was leaning up against the shed. "So, I have great news." She smiled.
"If it has anything to do with Jacob, I don't care," I kept my eyes on the sky in front of me.
She scoffed. "Jealous, much?"
"Not even close." I lied because I couldn't even admit to myself the level of jealousy I was at.
"Good, because I'm staying here so I can spend more time with him."
I would've rather heard anything else come from her mouth. The only thing I looked forward to when Bree came to visit was the fact that she left the next morning. Now, who knows how long it'll take for her to go back home?
I didn't even respond. I jumped down from the little shed and walked back to the house, because not even my own little hideout could save me now.
She ran after me. "Good to see that my own sister isn't happy for me."
"First of all, you're not my sister. There's a fine line between sister and stepsister." I explained. "And why should I be happy for you?"
"I don't know, maybe because I'm basically dating a superstar?"
"He's not just some superstar, okay? He's a person."
She just stared at me. "Why do you care? It's not like he would be friends with someone like you anyway."
I didn't even bother saying anything because she was actually right. People like him didn't go for people like me and I should've seen that at the start.
