Chapter 28- Distractions

"Ivy I know I didn't get to tell you at homecoming but you sang beautifully. You should create a band. I know a great guitarist and pianist/ drummer. And I know you play the drums too so if you are interested let me know" My music teacher says and I smile and nod.

"I would love to do it" this causes a big grin to spread across her face. "Awesome! Can you start after school?" I nod in agreement causing her to smile. "Great, see you then. Good luck on that English exam" I smile and send a quick thank you before heading to my psychology class.

I am going to meet my mystery band mates and to be honest, I am a little scared, they could be really good, or really bad or I don't even want to think about anything else.

I walked into the classroom and to say I was happy would be an understatement, I am ecstatic! My new bandmates are Blake and Aiden.

"I thought you guys would be happy to see each other. Alright you guys have a month to learn and practice all of these songs for the sweetheart dance in February, is that okay?" We nod with a smile. "Good, get to work!" She says with excitement.

"Alright which song do you want to work on first?" I ask while flipping through the pages.

"Let's do one breakup song. How about You Don't Love Me Like You Should by Hey Violet?" Aiden suggests, poor guy got his heart ripped out for something he didn't even do.

"Sure, do you have the music and lyric sheet?" He nods and pulls it out of his backpack. I'm not even gonna ask.

"Alright I'll sing and play drums" I chime in and Blake nods.

"I'll play guitar"

"That leaves me with keyboard, alright let's do it!" Aiden says with a smile. I'm surprised that he's taking this so well. We start playing and it was amazing, let's see how well this goes at the dance.
1 Month Later...
"I am so ready for this dance! Mark and I are doing so well" Layla says while putting the finishing touches on her makeup.

"His name is Mike, and that's good I guess..." I trail off. What she doesn't know is that Aiden is going to serenade her tonight, I'm so excited!

I still refuse to talk about the Zander thing because it's too much... I can't talk about it. I won't.

"Alright, ready to go?" Before I could answer, she pulls me downstairs and into the car. Blake, Aiden and Liam said that they would meet us at the dance. "I can't believe you and the boys are in a band" she says while turning into the block of the school.

"Yeah, it was a shock to me too but we are good I promise" We both chuckle as she pulls into the parking lot of the school. We get out of the car and walk inside to see everyone dancing to the music on a playlist.

"Alright now that you are here, you guys can start. The boys are backstage go and meet them" My music teacher says and I smile.

"I'll see you later Lay" I wave at Layla and she smiles back brightly. I run backstage and greet the boys. "Are you guys ready?" I ask excitedly Blake gives me a thumbs up, something is up with him. I'll find out later. Then I look at Aiden and see that he looks nervous.

"No need to be nervous, were on" I say as the curtain pulls up. "Hey everyone, I hope you are having fun so far. We are going to be performing tonight, let me stop rambling and let's start playing. Enjoy the dance everyone" I go over to the drums and we play the song Love Shack.

Alright, now Aiden is up. He is going to be singing I Wish by One Direction. We start playing and he looks straight at Layla. At the end of the song his voice cracks indicating that he's crying. Layla looks up at him and smirks, she then takes Mike and kisses him while looking at Aiden. Aiden walks off stage and I walk up to the mic.

"Um we are going to take a short break guys. Enjoy the playlist" I go running up to Layla and I push her. "What the hell is the matter with you?!" I shout

"I did nothing wrong" she says innocently

"Yes you did and you know it. Why did you do that? That song was for you! He picked it for you because he loves you!"

"Stop yelling at me. He deserved it"

"No he didn't! You are just mad because of that picture!-"

"You're damn right I am"

"You don't even know the full story!" I shout angrily causing her to roll her eyes.

"Of course you would take his side, you are his sister-"

"No. I am taking his side because he told me the story! That picture was taken last year! He didn't cheat on you!" Her smirk fades to a frown. "Yeah that's right, if you feel bad because of that just imagine how he feels seeing you kiss another guy while he was serenading you!" I push her again before storming off to find Aiden.

"Aiden! Aiden come back to the school" he turns to look at me and what I see next causes me to scream. A car hits him and he goes rolling over it. "NOOOOO!" I scream while dropping to my knees.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry I didn't see him I tried to stop I'm sorry!" The driver shouts. He takes out his phone and dials 911. "Please I hit a young man with my car. I didn't see him we need an ambulance please help! We are are the school on maple street" (a/n- I made that up so don't comment on it)

"The ambulance is on its way. Is there anyone I can call for you?" I give him daggers.

"You can call Satan and ask him to take you back to hell" I spat angrily. I can't breathe I can't I can't. My phone starts ringing but I can't answer, I give it to the driver to answer.

"Hello?"

"Where's Ivy I need to talk to her, tell her it's Blake"

"Are you in the school?"

"Yes why? Who is this!" Blake demands.

"There's been an accident, an ambulance is on its way, you have to come outside please" The driver says and the line goes dead. Within a few minutes I see Blake, Liam and Layla come out and they all are shocked at the sight.

The ambulance arrived and they take Aiden away. "Ivy let us take you to the hospital" Liam says while grabbing my arm. I don't respond, I just go with Liam into the car and we speed to the hospital.

Once we got to the hospital, we ran into the waiting room and we sit down. I almost freak out when I see Aiden being taken into surgery.

"Excuse me do they know if he's going to be okay?" Layla asks a nurse. Dumb question Layla. I can't even deal with her right now because I can't even process what is going on.

"I'm afraid not. He has a lot of damage to his ribs and he has internal bleeding"

"Is he going to survive?" Blake asks and the nurse puts her head down. "We are not sure yet. We have to see if he is going to pull through surgery and then it's all him from there" I cry harder. I feel like I can't breathe.

"I can't I'm sorry" I manage to say in between tears while running. I know exactly where I am going, my feet lead me to Avery's house.

"Oh honey what's wrong?" Avery says while pulling me into a hug.

"I-Its Aiden there was an accident! It's horrible they don't even k-know if he's gonna make it and it's all my fault! He might die and it will be my fault!" I cry into her arms.

"Ivy!" Jenny and Nate say in unison. "Kids, Ivy isn't feeling to well-"

"It's okay, come here" I say while wiping away my tears, they hug me tight which is enough to make me crack the smallest smile.

"Can Ivy stay and play?" Avery looks at me and I nod telling her that it is okay. "Sure she can" Avery replies causing Jenny and Nate to pull me upstairs.

"Okay so we both love just dance, wanna play?" Nate asks while handing me a remote and I nod. "Sure" we play Just Dance and I actually had fun.

That is why I love distractions, they take away the pain even if it's for a little  while.
