The only thing I could hear is his warm breath, warming my face. A kiss under the mistletoe; is this really gonna happen to me? Jake quickly answered that question. His gorgeous face slowly grew closer to mine. Our cold noses touched and so did our foreheads. His beautiful eyes looked directly in mine. I smiled, “I Love you,” He whispered.
“I Love you too,” I said.
And with that, our lips touched. Below my eyelids, our future was playing like a movie. Our beautiful children and big house that we’d talked about. I was starting to think Skye could predict the future. Our lips disconnected, but the butterflies stayed. You’d think that after all this time; I’d be used to his kiss by now.
We were only inches apart. He lifted his arm up and pushed the hair away from my eyes. “You are the most beautiful girl in this world Cassie,” I started to blush at his words.
“I’m really n-,” He put a finger over my lips, silencing me.
“Just stopping you before you lie,” He smiled. “Have I not said that you’re beautiful enough yet?”
“You have, but...”
“I’m not a liar Cassie. Believe me that you are gorgeous or I’ll be offended,” He pouted.
I rolled my eyes and nodded. “Good,” He kissed me quickly on the cheek.
We went inside and danced the night away. We took a few breaks, sitting down and having some punch. People started to leave so Jake and I had a sit down after our last dance for the night. I was so tired, but was so happy. Everything was perfect. The last thing I remember of that night was resting my head on Jake’s lap, while I talked to him and Skye. I woke up in my bed the next morning, with Skye sleeping on my floor in a blanket.
It wasn’t the night of the formal. Or the day after that, that changed my whole life. It was two weeks later; Jake was taking me a walk down a quite road. We were walking on the footpath and we’re talking. Just normal stuff: laughing, smiling, holding hands and swinging them very obviously-
All of a sudden, there was a loud screech of tyres. Jake tightened his grip on my hand but it all happened so fast. A car was sliding very speedily on the icy road; right towards me. My hand slipped out of Jake’s grip as a sharp pain struck the lower part of my body. “Jake!” I cried. There was breaking and shattering and I could hear screams and crying. I was lying almost unconsciously on the road and foot path. Jake dropped to his knees beside me as his tears dropped rapidly on me. Blood was staining the pavement as I saw the car that hit me slide on down the road.
“Cassie,” Jake cried.
“It’s alright Jake.” I said shakily, trying not to sound as petrified as I really was.
“D-don’t leave me baby girl. I Love You Cassie, I really do. Stay awake baby girl, I-I’ll call for someone,” He wiped his tear-filled eyes and stuck his hand in his pocket. He took off his shirt and hoodie and wrapped them around my leg and everywhere else that blood was pouring out, to try to stop it.
“H-hello,” He stuttered. “I-I need an ambulance, downhill road, come quick,” Jake let out a cry. “I-I don’t know, at least two. Please, I can’t lose her,” He hung up and turned back to me, tears rimming his eyes.
“Tell mum,” I gasped for air. “That I Love her,” I continued. “A-and tell Skye that I Love her too. That she’s the best friend I’ve ever had. A-and Jake, I-,” I gasped for air, “I Love you, never forget that.”
“Cassie,” He cried. “You’re gonna be alright, l-look, there- there’s the ambulance there,” There was an ambulance bleeping in the near distance. But I think we both knew I wasn’t gonna make it. “I Love you, okay?”
“I Love you too but please, baby girl,” My vision started to fade.
“I Love you, Jake.” I gasped for air, but those were my last words.
Jake burst out crying, leaning over my motionless body, repeating, “I Love you Cassie”. His voice was quivering as the tears poured out of his eyes, dotting my T-shirt. There was a clattering as the ambulance doors opened. Someone ran over to me and bent down, putting their middle and index finger to my neck. He looked back at the rest of the ambulance men and shook his head.
Jake was still crying, even harder when the man did this. He looked at Jake and said, “I’m sorry.”
