You Fight

“But, babe, I really wanted you to come.” Niall speaks and sits on your desk.

“Sorry, but I just have too much homework to get done.” You respond, a little annoyed at his persistence as you continue to copy notes out of your textbook.

“But you said you’d come a week ago! This is a big deal—we’re receiving the—” he starts again.

“I know, I know!” you interrupt, irritated. “You’re receiving another award. Yes, I know.”

He frowns and stares at you, but you keep working. “Well you could at least act like you care. I really wanted you to be there.” He says, his voice picking up frustration.

“I’m just really busy and I’m sure you’ll do great. I’m proud of you, but don’t you get these things all the time?” you reply with only half your attention.

“But this one’s big!” he defends, clearly getting upset.

“You always say that.” You respond in annoyance and glance up at him.

“Why can’t you support me like the other guys’ girlfriends? They’re all coming tonight.” he complains.

“Seriously? You’re saying I don’t support you? This is the first thing I’ve missed in months. Months, Niall!” You correct, your voice rising.

“Yeah, but you’ve been avoiding everything for weeks. You’ve been, like, distant and weird and moody whenever we’re out!” He says in a fury, his annoyance and frustration obvious.

“I’m just busy with school!” You defend in exasperation.

“Oh come ON, I’m not stupid.” He spits and crosses his arms. You glare at him for a minute before responding.

“Fine. You want to know the real reason?” You reply with copious amounts of sass.

“Yeah, I wanna know the real reason.” He glares.

“Fine. I don’t want to go with you because I’m tired of it. I’m tired of your fame and your fans and your management. I’m tired of the paps, I’m tired of being attacked online, I’m tired of having to plan our days out around your stupid career. I’m tired of having to fabricate stories and elaborate secrets just to go on holiday. I’m tired of the band. I’m tired of the shows. I’m just TIRED.” You spill, anger and frustration and sadness all coming down at you at once. “And I’m freaking stressed out with school which doesn’t help either!” You add, your jaw locked and brows knitted as you try not cry. Niall stares at you with a mixed look of disbelief, regret, and irritation.

“Are you kidding me?” he reacts sarcastically.

“No, Niall, I’m not.” You patronizingly bite. “And I’d appreciate it if you could leave me alone to get my work done so I can go to bed.”

“Fine. I don’t have time for this anyway— I have an award to receive.” He growls and jumps off the desk to leave.

“Have fun with your award.” you call sarcastically.

“We’ll talk about this later.” He yells in annoyance as he storms out of the room.

You look back down to your textbook—too angry and frustrated to cry at first, but when you hear the door slam, signaling his departure, something clicks and you dissolve into a puddle of tears. You hate the fact that you feel like this about your relationship, but regardless of whether you want to or not, you do. You know Niall isn’t one to just give up when things get tough, but you can’t help how you feel, and you’re going to have to work it out. And even though you know you’ll probably end up better for it, in this moment, when it feels like it’s all too much and you’re angry and it seems there’s no end in sight, it just plain sucks.
