"Happy Birthday!!" you hear in a medley of shouts and cheers. You smile into your pillow as you hold the phone to your ear.
"Happy Birthday, love!" Louis takes the lead. "Niall's out right now, but we wanted to wish you a happy birthday before we went out for the day. He said he'd call later."
"Do you have any exciting plans?" Harry asks.
"Thanks guys! You're all too sweet. No, not really, but I did take it off from work. I may just sleep all day." you laugh in response.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Zayn shouts from the background.
"Well, whatever you do, don't forget to eat some cake and ice cream. A birthday is not a birthday without cake and ice cream." Liam comments cheerfully.
"Yessir!" you reply giggling.
"When we get back we'll have to have a huge double celebration for you and Harry. So prepare yourself!" Louis says with sass. You laugh.
"That sounds great. You guys kill it today, okay?" You smile.
"Just for you- we will." Liam replies. A chorus of goodbyes and happy birthday's follow and you thank them over and over before hanging up the phone with a laugh.
You plug your phone in before heading to the shower to make sure it's fully charged in preparation for Niall's call.. whenever that may be. You're a bit sad it ended up he couldn't make it back for your birthday, but you're excited that it won't be long now before they're back on home soil and you can spend quality time with your boyfriend. Besides, he had tried his hardest, but it just hadn't worked out with the scheduling and you understood that.
After a quick run to the market down the street, you settle in for the afternoon in your bed with a small, one person cake, a bowl of ice cream, your favorite stuffed animal, and lots and lots of movies. You're actually pretty excited— your friends have something planned for the weekend, so it's nice to have a day at home to relax. And a phone call from your boyfriend, whom you haven't seen in months, will be icing on the cake. Sick butterflies form in your stomach when you hear your front door unlatch and swing open. You clutch the covers, frozen in place and unable to move out of fear. You cower lower as you hear footsteps coming closer and you slowly reach for your phone. You know you should be running to the bathroom and locking the door and calling the police, but you're so scared you can't even dial your phone. You gasp in a big breath of air right as the assailant enters the doorway, but your eyes squint in confusion when you recognize who it is.
"Niall?" you question. He grins, kicking his shoes off and crawling onto the bed beside you. "Niall!!" you exclaim sitting up as he burrows under the covers.
"I'm exhausted, leave me alone." he plays, pulling the covers over his head.
"Niall you scared me to death! I almost had a heart attack!" you shriek in joy, whacking him with a pillow. He erupts into laughter and pulls the covers down to look at you.
"Happy Birthday." he laughs.
"You haven't seen me for months and all you have to say is 'I'm exhausted, leave me alone.'" you play.
"I said, 'Happy Birthday!'" he defends with a smile, raising himself up. You give him a sarcastic glare before he tackles you in a kiss. You laugh when it turns into a tangle of tickles and order him to stop or else you'll get the cake all over the blankets. He perks up at the sound of food and settles himself, preparing to take advantage of your birthday sweets.
"Hey hey, not so fast. It's my birthday, not yours." you chide, pulling the cake away.
"Well I did fly half way across the world to be with you for your birthday. An event that happens every year, mind you." he replies, crossing his arms.
You sigh with sillines. "Okay fine. I guess that's good enough for me to share with you."
You both grin and spend the day laughing and eating food and doing whatever you feel like. Just the fact that he is there is enough to make the day feel extra, extra special.
