Kinsley

Kinsley immediately took notice of the bandages covering Iris' knuckles when she saw her in the morning. She hadn't had them when they argued the night before, so it had to have happened after.

"So, you're just going to leave?" Alex asks bringing her attention back to him. She originally was going to leave at first light, but she didn't want to go without saying goodbye to Alex. "I don't understand, Kinsley. Where are you going to go?"

"I don't know, maybe a city. Dark Angels don't like to go into public. Too many people around." Kinsley doesn't really have a plan; she just hopes she'll figure something out along the way.

"Just stay with us. Help us fight them. You of all people should understand that they need to be stopped." Alex's eyes are soft, his voice pleading. "It'll be safer if you're not alone."

Kinsley shakes her head. "Alex, I know that every time Bailey or Gabriel or even Iris—every time they look at me, they see what happened to Leo. I can see it in their eyes." Alex opens his mouth, but she cuts him off. "I see it in your eyes too." He closes his mouth. Pain and guilt flash over his face. "It would just be better if I left."

"I don't want you to," he tries again.

She nods but throws her bag over her shoulder. "Maybe we'll run into each other again. I'm sorry about all the shit I brought into your life." She turns away from him, unfurling her black wings.

"Kinsley." She faces him, his deep blue eyes staring into her soul. "Be careful, okay?" She nods. "Don't get yourself killed."

She gives him a small smile. "You too."

He returns it with an even smaller smile and she takes the cue.

She flaps her wings, taking up fifteen feet with her jet black feathers. "Take care, Alex." And she takes off into the morning sky.
