He looked at me and grabbed my cheeks and kissed me. I pushed him back and sat on the couch. "Stop, you're stalling. Tell me," I said.

"It's just something that really broke my heart," he said.

"I am going to be here for you. You can trust me, but in order for me to help you, you have to tell me," I said looking into his eyes.

He sat next to me and pulled out his wallet. He fidgeted with it a bit before pulling out a fading photo.

"Hailey Martinez," he said placing the picture on the table

"Hailey Martinez," he said placing the picture on the table.

"That's her?" I questioned examining the photo.

"The one and only," he said sighing. "Or she used to be," he whispered.

"What happened to her?" I asked him placing the image back down.

"She was my best friend. I was in a fight at the age of 15. It wasn't any fight," he started out.

"What do you mean?"

"It started out with me and some guy, then three others joined and they jumped me at the gym while everyone was at class except for one person," he chuckled shaking his head. "Hailey was wondering about, always getting in places she shouldn't have been," he said wiping a tear that fell down his face.

"She watched in silence as they beat me up and once the left she rushes to my side and pulled me to the nearest bathroom and helped me clean my cuts," he said.

"So that's how you met?"

"Yeah, after that we were inseparable. She would sneak out and see all the cool stuff while I stayed and payed attention in class so that I could help her when she came back and didn't understand," he said smiling a little bit.

"Then what?" I asked.

"My mom lost her job and I had to look for alternatives to feed her and myself. So I met Wayne, he offered to pay me $5 per day by slipping dime bags to people. I got a promotion and began to climb up the drug game ladder, I began lacking at school, getting in trouble, and stopped hanging out with my classmates. Hailey noticed and tried to ask me what I was doing," he took a breath and sat back.

"She went back to school full time so she could help me, instead. One night there was a party similar to the one we went, tho that time there were drug dealers from important roles. I was invited to go but what I didn't know was that Hailey followed me there," he shook his head and laughed. "Always getting in places she shouldn't had," a tear fell from his eye.

"She stood outside during the party but Wayne noticed her spying and asked his men to bring her inside to question her. She denied having ang involvement with the police investigation that was going on at the time but he still didn't believe her so I lied and told him she was my girlfriend and she was there because she tracked my phone," he said.

"What did Wayne say?" I asked him.

"He told us both to leave until he figured out how to handle the situation," he said before rolling his eyes. "Four months later I got a call from an unknown number saying Hailey was being held captive, in one of the warehouses. Which seemed weird because I got a phone call from her previously where she said she was going away 5 months to do an internship at a daycare center in Boston. Of course I went to look for her," he said clenching his jaw a bit. "Come to find I didn't find her until I visited the last warehouse of 20. She had been held captive since the day she was discovered at the party," he said.

"What happened to her?"

"They took her that night when she went to a church to pray for me. They took her in the warehouse were she was raped various times by two different men. Aubrey and Wayne. When I got there they had all left, I found Hailey on the ground clutching her stomach as she layer on a pool of blood," he said and wiped his eyes a bit.

"Was she alive?" I asked him.

"She was barely breathing but I took her to the hospital, she was just 15! They had gotten her pregnant but waited until she was three months along to beat her up and make her lose her baby," he said.

"That's horrible," I whispered as a tear fell down my face.

"She was unresponsive to anyone who tried to talk to her. She was alive and breathing, she just didn't want to talk. They had placed her in a room on the top floor. I fell asleep one night and heard her crying and yelling out all sort of things saying how she wanted to die. I looked around the room and saw she drank about 20 different pills and then tried to jump from a window. I stopped her just in time before she did," he said.

"What happened to her after?" I asked him.

"She went back to being herself, at least that was what we all thought. One day she stopped coming to school and everyone said she had ran away, but as I was driving back to my house one night I stopped by a church to pray for her like she did for me. I didn't know it was the same church. I saw someone laying on the floor in pure darkness," he said.

"It was her," I gasped.

He nodded his head as his voice broke, "She had been laying there for about 5 hours. The choked her to death and left her there. Her death broke me, that's why I studied," he said.

"What do you mean?" I asked him confused.

"I studied so much because I used to hope that she was just skipping class and she would come back and need my help catching up," he confessed.

"Oh my gosh, Shawn," I said hugging him as we both cried a bit.

"That's the story of my best friend," he whispered. "That's the story about how I lost Hailey," he said.
