For the second time in a week, I find myself in a cold heartless hospital room.
Lying on the bed, I look up at the doctors face as he says
"Well, you'll live"
Well that's helpful
"You don't seem to have much control over your powers, though, and that is what is causing this. Basically, it is the left part of your unusual mind that is getting confused, trying to do what the right side particles want to do, and..."
I zone out as I have absolutely no desire to listen to him droning on.
Finally, he stops blabbering on and says
"Ok, you can go now"
So I get up and walk out of the ward with absolutely no idea where I'm going.
As I'm walking down the corridor, I suddenly have a thought. What about all the other Bewitchers? I mean, there is me and Richie, but what about all the other people? I mean, nice as it would be, I really don't think that they built this whole massive compound just for us.

I find a familiar looking green door, so I it push open and hobble out, but since I can't hoist myself up onto the branch where Zahvahnah and I sat, I lean back against the trunk and close my eyes, happy to be outside and feel the cool breeze on my cheek. After a while, I push myself up on my crutches and hobble around the tree, and then promptly almost kill myself by tripping over a leg that is stuck out. I look down angrily and see a girl, about my age, hiding behind a curtain of her hair. She quickly gets up and stumbles backwards, her face covered in a look of terror.

I think to myself 'I'm not that scary am I?'  Then I realise that I'm holding up one crutch threateningly and I'm scowling. I hurriedly put down the crutch and rearrange my features into a pleasant smile. I open my mouth to speak but someone's voice  - namely Zahvahnah - interrupts me.
"Jo! Jo, where are you? Come on lazy bones, I have to take you to meet our latest arrival..." Zahvahnah trails off as she sees me next to the girl, then says brightly
"Well, I see you've already met! How splendid! Then she pats us on the back and walks of. Over her shoulder, she says
"Meet me here at 6 for dinner, girls!"

So I look at the girl - Jo - and say
"Hi"
Wow. I'm obviously going to have a career in starting conversations one day.
"Hey. I'm Johanna, or Jo for short." The girl murmurs with her head down, still hiding behind a curtain of hair.
"Hi! Sorry if I seemed intimidating before. I'm Rosa." I say, holding out my hand. But when I take my weight of my crutch, I topple to the ground. Jo bursts out laughing, and my cheeks go red as I get up. But I realise what I must have looked like, and start laughing too.
Trust me to break the ice in the weirdest way imaginable.
Anyway, we sit down in the roots of the tree and start talking. I get a proper look at Jo, and she is really pretty. She has long black sleek curly hair that tumbles down her back, but at the bottom it turns into a deep vibrant purple.

She has a long fringe that covers her forehead and falls into her eyes, and every so often she reaches up with pale, slender fingers and brushes it to the side

She has a long fringe that covers her forehead and falls into her eyes, and every so often she reaches up with pale, slender fingers and brushes it to the side. She has a pale face, too, and pretty almond shaped eyes. She is quite shy, and talks quietly, but when she smiles or laughs her whole face transforms.
We talk about totally random things, like what our favourite foods are and what our dream bedrooms would have in them. Naturally, mine contained a jacuzzi, hot tub, manicure and pedicure booth, a 60 inch flat screen TV and a four poster double bed with drapes, plus loads more.
Jo's was much simpler, and I got the impression that she wasn't all that spoiled, which left my wondering about why she was here, at a Training Camp for Spoilt Bewitchers.
I was about to ask her when Zahvahnah appeared out of nowhere, cutting be off again.
"Time for dinner girls! I hope you have gotten to know each other well! Now follow me."
So we walk/ hobble after  Zahvahnah and she shows us a huge room -decorated all in white of course- with a table in the middle. We sit down at one end of it, and then in come butlers dressed in white, carrying platters of food. A man places a plate in front of me. I take off the dome from the top and find a steaming plate of sausages, mash and gravy with a Yorkshire pudding and peas on the side. I smile. Now this is the type of food I'm used to. I pick up my knife and fork, ready to tuck in, when I hear a voice rasp
"No manners at all! Not even waiting for the others at the table"
Of course something had to spoil my delicious meal. Because the person who just walked in is Mrs Gurney, and to my great frustration, she sits down right next to me.

This is going to be a long dinner.

After choking down my food which suddenly tasted rotten with the Spawn of the Devil breathing down my neck the whole time, I quickly got up and excused myself from the table. Zahvahnah had whispered that she would meet me outside by the tree before I walked out of the dining room, so I walk to the green door and step outside into the fresh night air.

After about 10 minutes, the door opens again and Zahvahnah comes out to meet me. She has a white envelope in her hand and she comes to sit next to me on the ground.
"So, Rosa. How are you?" She asks.
I just look at her. I seriously can't be bothered with small talk. She smiles, and hands me the envelope. It is addressed to me. I go to open it, but I realise that Zahvahnah is peering over my shoulder, so I shoo her away. If she thought I was going to let her read my mail, then, well, she thought wrong.

Alone outside again, I rip open the crisp envelope and take out the paper inside. It is folded cleanly. I open it up and see a few typed lines, reading
Rosalyn-May
I hope you are training hard. Make sure you pay attention because you will need to use your powers very soon.
For me.
The next letter you receive will have instructions on where to meet me. We have to talk, and you need to understand where your loyalties lie.
Do not disappoint me.

That's it. No see you soon, not even signed! And they had the nerve to use my full name, the one I despise! I shiver suddenly. I try to convince myself that it is just the chilly night air, but I know deep down that the note creeped me out. I want to get away from here, to see Jo, but I don't know how,  because I can't go to my room since I have no idea how to get there.
But Zahvahnah fixed my problem by coming out of the door at that moment and saying
"Come on Rosa, time for bed."
So I follow her back into the maze of long white hallways with bright lights.

Now that I've met Jo, Zahvahnah decided that since we were both girls, we could sleep together. It sounds like a cool idea, to be honest. Zahvahnah takes me to a door in the endless corridors, and she opens it. I'm expecting a white, artificially lit prison cell, basically. But I gasp when I look inside. It is quite dark, with the only light coming from fairy lights strung across the walls. There are 2 single beds on opposite sides of the room and they are covered in pillows that say things like 'Go for your dreams' and inspirational stuff like that. There are beanbags in one corner of the room, and an extra large pine wardrobe in another. There is also a large French window facing the terrible rope swing and lake that still haunt my dreams. I run in and see Jo sitting on one of the beds on her laptop. Her laptop! How on earth did she manage to get a LAPTOP!!!!! Oh well, I'll just persuade her to let me use it. But I'm exhausted and desperate for Zahvahnah to go so that I can think about that letter in peace. So I flop down on the free bed and find that someone has kindly brought over my heap of clothes that were on the floor of my cell. And under them, I find my beloved phone. I almost die of happiness as I pick it up and turn it on, the note temporarily forgotten. But my happiness doesn't last long when I realise that there is a code for the wifi. I turn to ask Zahvahnah but she has already disappeared somewhere, so I just sigh. I can ask her tomorrow morning. For now, I'll just sleep. And that is the last thought I have before I close my eyes and almost immediately fall asleep, still in my clothes from the day for lack of anything better to wear. Oh well.

If anyone has any ideas for what Jo's power could be, please let me know in the comments because I need inspiration! :)
