NOTE: THIS IS A TRUE STORY THAT HAPPENED TO ME MARCH 7th, 2015. THE FLASH BACKS TORTURED ME UNTIL I TURNED THEM INTO A POEM.
SNAP!
Time seems to stop
Sound seems to disappear
Sight dims to a blur
All senses dim or are lost
Straight down, then backwards
A blue of bare branches, twigs, and dry seed pods
Swirling 'round me in slow motion
The ground had disappeared out from under me and I feel frozen in time
The ground reappears with a crash
Breath leaves my body
Senses return
I sit up, gasping for air
People gather 'round me
They help me stand
But I fall again
My vision goes dark and I can barely hear
They lay me down again
A sharp bullet of pain shoots through my lower back
I scream out in agony
We struggle to get me to the car...
To the hospital...
To the X-ray...
To the CT...The results come in
One of my right vertebra is fractured
A Transverse Process Spinal Fracture
I ask myself, "Will I ever walk again?"The answer shall come in four weeks:
YES! I shall walk again!
Now I am better
Walking with no crutches
Bending with no pain
My experience has shown me a new respect
For the trees that bare much weight
For the trees that bare our weight
