Sorry for the mistakes!
Chapter 5
I have been wanting to vomit for the past five minutes. Matthew has been putting his foot on and off the gas petal, making us tumble everywhere. He hasn't been talking to me, he has been focusing on the road the whole time. Sophia is in my arms, and is shaking and if dogs had skin colors visible, she would be green.
"Are your feet ok?" I ask, turning towards him.
"Yeah don't worry about it." He says shaking his head.
Odd, If I were him I would be crouching down in pain.
"Do you think I will be able to get my truck back?" I ask.
"I don't know but if I can, I will, it's just very dangerous right now." He says, still focusing on the road.
Great. I had to use all my money for that truck, just to find out I may never see it again!
Money. MONEY!
"NO WE NEED TO GO BACK RIGHT NOW!" I say screaming.
"Why is that?" He says, raising an eyebrow.
"All my stuff is in there! All my money, clothes, food, thanks a lot." I say, fighting the urge to punch him.
For all I knew he was a random stranger that I met on the side of the highway while having a flat tire who might be connected to a gang or some kind of bad group.
"Don't worry about it, I'll send someone to tow your truck. For the meanwhile we need to stay out of sight." He says, changing lanes.
"Why are we needing to hide? Why do I need to come with you? How are you not in pain?!" I say, screaming at him once more.
All that was running through my mind was I am going to get kidnapped. He's probably driving me to a dark apartment and I will never come out. Or he will make me his slave. Why did I trust him? Probably because of his amazing green eyes. Man, I am so stupid, I think to myself.
"First off, there is basically a group of people who are trying to first take over this town, and to start taking over this country. They are called the Zelas, and I used to work for them. I told them everything, all the hot spots and where everyone was, and how to buy all the houses and stores. But last year I told them lies because they started killing people. I got fired, and they threatened to kill my family, and to kill you. They were so violent, and still are. They are after me and you, Jennifer."
"How do they know about me I thought this was the twenty first century not the eighteenth?!" I shriek.
"Your father is the founder of the Zelas." He says, shaking his head.
Wait what.
"So basically, my dad founded a place where a bunch of people want to take over the land and he's sending people to kill me?" I say.
"Well at first he wanted to protect you, and then when you moved out of his house, that's when he got angry. He sent spies all the time over to see where you were at, and that necklace of yours has a tracking device in it." He says, moving his hands up to the expensive sterio and turning on the radio.
I almost choked on my spit.
My necklace. MY NECKLACE. The necklace that has always ment the world to me, was just a tracking device? Man, my father is a crazy man, more and more am I regretting just calling him my related parent.
I remained speechless.
Matthew noticed and started once more.
"I'm very sorry to be telling this to you, but to let you know I am on your side. And I hate to break it to you but.."
"But? Spit it out come on!" I say, hitting his arm.
"Hey watch it miss bossy! If you don't recall, I'm the driver." He says, his smirk evident.
"Are you going to tell me or not?" I say, getting impatient.
"Only if you promise not to hit me again while I'm driving." Matthew says.
"Yeah yeah ok sure now tell me." I say, petting Sophia who I had forgotten was still on my lap.
"Pinky promise?" He says, half laughing.
"YES PINKY PROMISE AND THUMB PROMISE CROSS MY HEART OK NOW TELL ME!" I yell.
Laughing. That jerk was laughing at me.
After he had calmed down from his laughing attack he looked in his mirror and silently cursed.
"What's wrong?" I say, worry prominent in my voice.
"Their behind us." He says, speeding up to 60 mph, switching past every car on the highway.
I look back in the mirror to see the car has done the same.
Wait.
"Ok I don't know if this is the best time to ask but is it possible that there was a spy following me a couple days ago?" I say fast.
Matthew keeps veering and steering trying to lose the Zelas.
"Yes very much so. I hate to break it to you but your dad was the one who sent people to light your house on fire." He says grimly.
"What?!" I say, feeling my heart pace faster by the second.
I could feel my face burn up with anger.
So basically my whole life has been a lie.
Everywhere I try to start new something always backfires or I find out that my father wasn't who I thought he was.
"How would you even know this if you don't work for them anymore?" I say, while holding on to my chest, I think my heart might burst.
"My cousin works for them and he tells me what happens. We want to help you.'' He says.
"YES WE LOST THEM!" Matthew says, pumping his fist in the air.
"How do you know that they won't come back?" I ask.
"Oh we don't know that yet for sure." He says.
"Now I am headed to a distant forest up in the mountains." He says, pointing up to the hilly green mountains above us.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because they don't know about it. Now I need you to do both of us a favor and take off that necklace of yours and throw it out." He orders.
I take my hands behind my hair and unhook the necklace. I Take it in my hands and study it. The angel, all these years ment so much to me. I had always looked at it when I was down and remembered that my parents still love me. Well not anymore. Or they have a weird way of showing it, espically my father.
Matthew rolls down the window, as a cue for me to throw it out. I smell the air. There is no longer the ocean breeze, it smells very distant and more like oak trees. I take one last look at the necklace I had once called beautiful and hang it out the window. Fighting the urge to keep it I drop it down on the road, hearing a soft landing. I turn around to look out the window and already the necklace is far away.
I had thought about my dad for the last ten minutes, I have taken in all that Matthew has told me and realize.
"But I thought this was about my dad wanting to take over the world or whatever, not to hurt me! What do I have to do with anything!" I say whining.
"All I know is that he is angry with you for going out on your own for such a long time and not traveling in you mother's footsteps. If I believe right you are a artist?" He asks.
"Yeah I am.. How do you know all this stuff? Does he really say that much?" I ask.
"Basically yeah." He says, looking at me for a short second.
