My alarm went off. I checked the time. 7am. Time to get up. Get through my normal day. Doing exercise, doing the previous night's dishes, making breakfast, doing the laundry. What I didn't anticipate was Ora and her siblings showing up.
"Hey, we thought it'll be cool to play some card games. You in?" Ekene asked. "Nah. I'll pass." "Oh common, it'll be fun." He persuaded. "I really don't want to?" "Why not?" Why won't he just let me be. "You won't understand. Let me be!" I yelled and stormed out of the living room. I went to my room and laid on my bed as tears rolled down my cheeks. He doesn't understand. They don't understand. They never do. After what seemed like eternity but was really 30 minutes, I heard a knock on my door and the door opened to reveal Ekene. I immediately felt guilty. It wasn't his fault that he didn't understand. "I'm sorry I yelled at you." "It's okay. Why are you crying?" "Oh it's nothing." "Common Dawn. Talk to me." "You wouldn't understand." That came out in a whisper. "You keep saying that. Why don't you try me and see." Well it was worth a shot. I sat up. He was now seated on my bed. "The thing is, every Christmas, there's always this one person that makes my holiday fun but after that, I never see the person again. It's like when I get attached to the person, they suddenly disappear from my life. I can't take that heartbreak anymore. I figured there's no one I can get attached to this Christmas so I was going to be good, but then you guys show up and I'm trying not to get attached because I can't deal with you guys leaving but you guys have been nothing but kind and fun and I'm torn and I don't know what to do." I was crying again. "Ugh I'm such a mess. I'm sorry." "No you're not." I hadn't looked up at him since he came but something in his voice told me to. I looked up and he was crying. "I had no idea Dawn. I'm very sorry but I'd never leave you." "Yes you would. You'd go back to America." "We can chat or Skype. I know it's not the same but it's better than nothing." I wiped the tears from his face. "You're too handsome to cry." I told him. He laughed and I couldn't help but smile. "Yeah well so are you. Look, how about we make good use of the time we have together. It'll make good memories." "Yeah, you're right. Thank you." I hugged him. He hugged back. "So why don't we go back downstairs. The gang is waiting for us. I promised to bring you with me. Ora is really worried." "Well lead the way."
