Karlie
"Karlie, wait up!" Selena came up behind me quickly.
"Shh!" I covered her mouth and hushed her loudly.
I saw Taylor around the corner talking on a phone. She abruptly stood up and left, claiming she had to do something.
"Yeah.. Mom, Taylor was on Instagram!"
"Why is Taylor speaking about.. herself?" Selena asked me, very confused.
"SHUT UP!"
She looked at me, fake insulted, but shut herself up.
"Okay. I'll do that now. Love you." Taylor said.
She hung up the phone and looked around.
"Taylor?" I called.
She looked around frantically before reluctantly walking towards me.
"Um, hey Karlie, hey Selena. You didn't by any chance um, you know-" she started.
"Hear that phone call? Yeah, we did. Care to explain?" I said, maybe a little too rudely.
"Uh, okay. Well, um," she stuttered.
"It really shouldn't be so hard, Taylor," I started. She visibly cringed when I said her name. "Who were you talking to and why?"
"Um, I was talking to my mom," she said quietly.
"How come?" Selena asked, kindness evident in her voice.
"Family issues," She responded simply.
"What sort of family issues?"
"It doesn't matter," she said.
I had a weird feeling about her. She talked about herself in third person, wouldn't tell us, her best friends, anything...
It didn't seem like Taylor.
"How come you were talking in third person?" I asked.
She froze.
"I, uh, don't know what you're talking about," Taylor said.
"You were on the phone and said 'Taylor has been on Instagram.'" I point out.
"Oh. Umm, that's just something I do. I'm weird," she says, then faked a laugh.
She awkwardly turns around and starts to walk away quickly, clearly wanting to get out of the situation.
"Tay, wait." Selena stopped her by grabbing her arm.
Taylor shifted uncomfortably before turning back to us.
"I'm... uh, not Taylor," she gave in, saying quietly.
"I KNEW IT!" I pointed a finger at her. "Who are you? Some imposter fan that is so stalker-ish they want to be a Taylor swift? It's not that easy." I snarled.
Her mouth drops open.
"Oh my God.. Karlie it isn't like that. At all!"
"Uh huh. Who are you really? And how do you look exactly like her? Because I swear if you hurt Tay in ANY way you'll have problems with not just-"
She cut me off.
"Hmph. Okay.. I'm sure I'm not allowed to say this, but.. I'm Mack."
I just look at her in confusion. Who's Mack? And why does she look like Taylor?
She seems to notice that both mine and Selena's faces look confused."Oh my god! Taylor.. Never told you about me?" She asked.
I shook my head no, as Selena started to talk.
"But.. Taylor told always us everything," She said in confusion.
"I guess not.." I replied, and Taylor, I mean, Mack, leads us to a small cafe table and chair set to talk.
She told us all about Taylor disappearing, and how her mom had to make her be Taylor.
"Can we do something about this please? It sounds like the police have no interest in doing any other investigations anytime soon. And your mom making you be someone you aren't..? That sounds horrible, Mackenzie." I said.
"Mack?" I heard a gasp come from Abigail. "I thought you weren't acting like Taylor!"
"Hey Abi," She grimly replied and dug her nails into the chair she's sitting on.
"Um. Okay! So, can we try to look for Taylor?" I suggested.
"Yeah I guess soon but-" we all froze when we heard a notification go off.
"That's me." I said, looking down at my phone.
"What's it say?" Selena asked, looking over my shoulder.
"@taylorswift," I read. "Has posted a new Instagram photo."
All of us looked towards Mack.
"Mackenzie, you have Taylor's phone, right?" Selena asked.
"Um, yeah. She left one here," Mackenzie responded.
"So either she just posted something with her eyes not even on the screen or the phone not being on..?"
"Or... Taylor posted something!" Mack squealed. She then coughs, attempting to cover it up.
"Okay so let's see it!" Abi shouted impatiently.
"Quiet down, girl!" Sel whispered."Not everyone in the cafe needs to know she's missing!"
The picture was of Taylor, but she was crying.
And not her usual crying, with her belting out wailing and tears streaming down her face, but.. A single tear, and a sad, dramatic look.
"That's fake." Selena and Mackenzie state together, almost robotically.
"Can anyone even cry that perfectly?" Selena exclaims. "It doesn't make sense."
"Wait," Mack says. "It has a caption."
"So this is me swallowing my pride standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night..." She hummed the caption quietly.
"Hey! You've got a good voice!" Selena playfully slapped her on the shoulder. "You should sing with Taylor sometime!"
I had to admit.. Mack seemed a bit uncertain in her look back to Selena, but I brushed it off quickly.
"But what does that even mean? It doesn't look like it could be about a breakup.." I said.
My voice trailed off as Mackenzie closes out of Instagram to go to her email. We all stared at the phone, puzzled, and I suddenly understood when she pulls out the phone triumphantly.
"Aha! Phoenix. I was thinking it was a random place she tricked me with.. But no, she's there: and she's waiting." Mack had a determined look on her face, which me and the girls know a bit too well.
"Taylor always had that look when she wanted to get something done." Abi let out, saying exactly what I was thinking.
Mack ignored this and got out of her chair, grabbing her purse and beckoning us towards the car. We followed her uncertainly and pile into the car until she reaches her house. Complete silence. The silence stayed until we see her burst out of her house with a suitcase and a big, bright smile.
"Let's do this, girls." She yelled, much more confident than I would expect her to be.
And we head off to the private jet.
