*The Next Day*
"They're not after you. I can inform you on that. Again" Cas says, from the back seat. Dean mumbles under his breath then floors the gas, speeding down a back road in Lost Creek, Colorado. "We have to find a motel. I guess we're back in the business guys."
*Cas's POV*
I try to inform Dean that no one is after him. Is this what has been bugging him? Maybe I have to throw him one of those punches...wait, no picnic. But would it still be a picnic if it was late at night and not by a park?
*Sam's POV*
"Fun." Cas mumbles from the back. "Stop being such a sour puss, Cas." "Apologies." He says. We pull into a flat rate motel, $100 for five nights. "This'll do." "And why do we have to pick another motel? The one last night was nice, Dean." Cas says, as we unload the car. "This one's closer." We take our bags, head to the front desk. "Uhm...Two queens?" Dean rolls his eyes and slips his card onto the table. "Yeah that works." Before we know it, we're in the room, with two queens, and an AC needing to be cranked. I turn it up, as I notice Cas shoving a bag into the fridge. "What's that?" He closes the fridge and shushes me. "Shh, don't let Dean know."
Dean plops onto the bed, with his arms behind his head. "I'm napping. Don't die guys." Cas' eyes brighten up, and he pulls the bag back from the fridge. "Perfect time." He says to me. I didn't bother questioning what he was doing, so I plopped down on the other bed with my laptop, to do some 'research' on the possible demons here. "I'll be back." Cas speaks out. "Be careful, Cassy." Cas stops in his place, and looks at me and shrugs. "That's the first time you've called me that- But okay. I will. Enjoy your nap, Dean." Cas leaves with the bag, and I laugh to myself.
An hour goes by, and I have a few pages filled with locations, possible possessions, and strange apparitions. I notice Dean, making his way from the bathroom as he plugs his nose. "You do not want to go in there." He pushes away the smell, and squints his eyes. "I don't plan to, now." I arrange the notes on the desk, and scan them until my phone rings. "Okay I'm ready. Send Dean to the back yard." I laugh to myself. "Okay, Cas." I mumble, then throw my phone onto the desk. "Hey Dean, Cas wants you to meet him in the back of the hotel." He looks at me confused, but slides on his jacket. "It's nearly midnight. Why?"
*Dean's POV*
I make my way out to the park behind the motel, and stand there, grinning to myself. Cas walks up to me, with his hands in his trench coat. "I did it, all...for you. Do you like it?" I look at Cas, who has puppy dog eyes plastered on his face. How could I not? "I love it. I really do. Thank you, Cas." I wrap my arms around him and squeeze him. "This hug is tighter than your last." He doesn't flinch this time. I laugh, and walk around the picnic blanket and the lantern in the middle. The stars were out. The moon was shining bright, and there were no sounds other than us talking and adjusting ourselves on the ground. "I thought, maybe I should throw you a punch...I mean picnic. Since you have done one for me. It's not the best, but since we're not going to have much time after tonight, I thought it would be the right time. Also there is no park here, and it's nearly midnight, so what is that? A granight snack? A grass, midnight snack?" I take a deep breath, laugh, and cross my arms on my lap. "It's perfect, Cas. Thank you, so much."
"I brought the grapes, and peanut butter. I thought I'd give it a try. And the waters, well two of." I open the grocery bag to find a little bit of everything. "I thought we'd try the trix together too." He takes out the box of cereal and looks at it closely. "Good, because I've never had it myself." He looks at me, confused. "Never?" I shake my head. "Never."
We sit, and eat. I look at my phone to see a text from Sam. "Give me a second, okay?" He nods his head, as he shoves his face full of grapes and peanut butter. "This is fantastic." He mumbles with his mouth filled.
"Was that Sam?" He looks up, and places the plastic spoon down onto a napkin. "Yeah. He wanted to know how it was going." Cas got up, and sat back down on his knees. "What'd you say?"
"That it was going perfect." Before I knew it, we were laying down on the grass and looking at the stars. "Do you think that your mother is up there? And your father?" Cas asks, pointing to the brightest star he could find. "I'm sure they are, Cas." I took a deep breath and close my eyes for a few minutes as Cas talked. "I heard if you wish on a shooting star, your dream comes true."
"Yes." I mumble. "I saw you wishing once, out your window." I open my eyes, and turn to face him, only to notice his concentration on the sky. "You were wishing I'd come back, so I made sure your wish came true." I felt my pulse pick up, and my body got warm, quicker than ever. "You have done so much for me Dean, these past few weeks. I thought I'd do this as a thank you." He traces the constellations with his finger, and then each cloud around them. "It was a perfect thank you." I follow him, tracing each of the stars, then close my eyes again. My phone vibrates in my pocket, but I don't think Cas notices. He's too caught up in the sky, and everything else to notice a little vibration coming from my pants.
I place my phone back down, and sit up next to Cas, who is still looking at the stars
I place my phone back down, and sit up next to Cas, who is still looking at the stars. I sit there, zoned out at what the universe is. Billions of stars fill the sky, and we can only seem to find less than a hundred. My phone vibrates around a half hour later. Another text from Sam.
I look at Cas, who has a smile plastered on his face
I look at Cas, who has a smile plastered on his face. "I apologize for the picture. I couldn't help it." He grinned, and went back to looking at the stars. "I am so amazed at the universe, and you as well, Dean Winchester."
I lean back on my hands and look back up to the sky. "I'm amazed by the universe too...and you as well, Cas. You as well."
