Nearing December, I rise out of bed on a particularly cold winter day. Eventually I pick out an outfit and fix myself up so I don't look that ugly. I then make my way to school, which is an easy 5 minute journey. I walk down to the cafeteria to meet with my friends, just like I do everyday.

"Hey Cara, you look hot." My best friend Sarah gestures at me to sit down next to her, I sit, and am forced to watch out of he corner of my eye as her boyfriend decides now is a great time to swap saliva with her. I put my bag on the ground and look up, finding a new face in front of me. My heart skips a beat.

Her warm chocolate eyes, and her auburn hair, and her freckles that spread across her nose and her cheeks, and her lips, her body. My mind snaps back into place.

"Oh hey Cara, this is Delainie, she's shadowing me before she starts school here." My other friend Abby points to the new face. My mind races as I think of something to say.

"I uh- I'm Cara. It's good to meet you." She smiles. Even her teeth are nice. I shake the thoughts from my head and focus on trying to talk to her.

I learned her favorite color is purple, her dad and mom are divorced, she likes cats but not more than she likes to cook and bake. She goes to a private school but money is an issue with her because of the divorce, so she's transferring.

I don't think I've ever paid attention to someone more.

Her voice is velvety and she's soft spoken. She's polite, but her tone changes when she talks about things she loves. I wanna unravel her.

What is going on with me.
