A few years ago...
"Can you hand me a soda?" I said nudging Alex.
He scoffed in reply. "Get your own", he pouted.
"Alex, you can't stay mad at me forever. Just because I'm moving does-"
"It's not because of that!" He interrupted.
I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms.
"Then what is it?" I questioned. He looked everywhere but at me, because he knew I was right.
We had just graduated high school and we were throwing my going away party even though I wasn't moving for a few more days. I was moving in with my boyfriend of 4 years all the way to California. Alex thought it was absolutely ridiculous the fact that I was moving all the way to California, but especially with my boyfriend, Derek.
I had pretty much decided that I wanted to move with him for multiple reasons. One being, we wouldn't be separated and have to do long distance. Two, there were so many opportunities in California for the career I've been looking for; photography. Three, his parents offered to let me stay with them, and oh boy are the rich. No, I'm not staying with them just because they're rich, it's just like a huge plus.
Derek had offered me to go with him at first and I immediately said no. I wasn't ready at all to leave my family, my home and my friends, in particular, Lynn, Brian and Alex.
Lynn, I had met in 6th grade and we've been best friends ever since. Brian I had met in freshman year, through Lynn. And, Alex I had met when we were really young. Our moms were really close, not so much anymore, but ever since then Alex and I had been inseparable. And I really mean inseparable.
We'd go on trips together, either camping, or just the store to go buy snacks. He'd come over all the time and I'd go over to his house constantly. We've been exactly like that ever since. I go to him for anything, tell him absolutely anything and it made me feel great that I could always turn to him whenever.
In all honesty, early freshman, before Derek and I started dating, I had the biggest crush on Alex, and still do, but I never said anything because he's basically like my brother and I can't ruin our relationship by having stupid crushes. But geez, Alex was very attractive and not to mention basically the perfect boyfriend.
He's been shit on by so many asshole girls that it's almost hard to keep my mouth quiet about having a crush on him. I've told him he deserves much better. He's always told me the same thing anytime Derek and I got into dumb fights.
The door knob shook and it made jump. The door knob shook ferociously, until whoever was at the door realized it was locked.
They knocked on the door and Alex quickly walked over to the door. He unlocked the door and opened it.
"Hey ba- Oh, what's up, Babinski? Where's Leah?
Alex's faced turned cold and he clenched his jaw. He opened the door more so that I was visible from the door way.
Derek smiled and walked right passed Alex and walked over to me and kissed me hard. I could feel Alex staring at the both of us and Derek noticed too. He pulled away with a smirk.
"How are you?" I said before he could try kissing me again.
"I'm doing well, how are you, baby?" He said moving hair behind my ear. I smiled weakly knowing that Alex was right there getting furious as each second passed by.
"I'm doing good. Alex and-"
"Hey, sorry Babinski. I completely forgot you were there" he chuckled to himself.
Alex chuckled sarcastically and gave Derek a death stare once he paid attention.
I smiled knowing no matter what it was about, and serious or not. Alex could make me laugh no matter what. Especially when it came to Derek.
"So, when's everyone coming over, babe?" Derek asked putting his hand on mine that was rested on the counter.
"Actually, Brian just texted me now, they're downstairs," Alex spoke up.
"Hey, thanks Babinski, but is your name babe?"
Alex rolled his eyes and walked out the door with his fists clenched. I assumed he went down stairs to go meet up with Brian and Lynn who just arrived.
"Jesus, what's his problem? He knows I'm kidding with him right, Lee?"
"Lay off of him today, babe okay? It's our last day to chill out and hang before we leave, so just leave him alone for today alright?" I asked him squeezing his hand.
"I understand but, it's just a joke. We're bonding, babe" Derek said sarcastically.
"Derek, I'm being serious. Leave him alone and keep your sarcastic mouth to yourself. Al-" I was interrupted by Brian, Lynn, and Alex walking in.
"Hey guys!" I said inviting them all in and offering snacks and drinks to all of them.
While the three of them walked over to the table to eat and talk, I took Derek outside. I grabbed his hand and walked us both out the door.
"Babe, what's this ab-"
"You need to leave, babe" I said cutting him off.
A confused look appeared on his face and he said, "And why do I have to leave?"
"I just want time with my friends. I absolutely love you with all my heart but I need time with my friends. Especially if I'm leaving them. Just give me some time alright?"
"Babe, this ridiculous. Am I not allowed to spend time with you or what?" He shouted
"Derek, I'm moving with you in a few days. Just give me sometime with my friends alright?"
"Ugh, whatever babe. I'll be back around 11? Have fun with your emo squad" he said walking away putting his jacket back on.
I wonder why he's acting like such a jerk today. He's usually never like this.
I walked back inside and let a breath out that I didn't realize I was holding in.
"Hey everything okay, Leah?" Lynn asked.
"Yeah, I finally got rid of Derek so we can all just chill"
"Good, he's such an asshole. I hate him more and more everyday" Alex said crossing his arms and sitting back.
Brian elbowed him in the ribs and Alex yelped at shot him a piercing look. "Don't talk about her boyfriend like that Alex, be happy for her." Brian said.
"Well? Brian look at who's she's dating. A stupid jock. It's not Leah at all. She deserves someone better and she shouldn't throw her life away with this guys just because he's rich" Alex explained.
"Hey, you know that's not the reason I'm with him. I'm not just in it for the money." I said, starting to get a bit defensive.
"Then why are you with that asshole? He's such a dick to us and you." Alex asked.
"Leah, I usually don't agree with Alex on shit, but Alex has got a point. We all know that Derek doesn't treat you the best." Lynn chimed in.
Brian nodded in agreement with Lynn and Alex and I couldn't help but wonder, why am I with Derek? I couldn't tell on whether I'm being bias because three of my best friends don't want me to be with him, or do I love him enough to go California and pursue my dreams with a guy I've spent 4 years with.
I couldn't think. My mind black. Nothing. Zip. The only thing that popped in my head had nothing to do with what my friends asked me but I blurted it out.
"Can we go do something? Or go somewhere? Like we did when we were Freshman and Sophomores. Please?" I questioned.
Hey guys!
I'm so so so sorry it took me for damn ever to finish this chapter. I'm gonna try and be more active! Love ya guys -lynnlikesladies
