Dear Nobody,
From the second I walked into school, I tried to avoid you at all costs. I'd decided the night prior that being hung up on you would only make my day-to-day worse. If only it were that simple! But I attempted it nonetheless.
I did fairly well until lunch. I was in line with my best friend, Siobhan, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned, startled, only to see you grinning. It was as if you were a child playing a game that was only funny to you, but everyone went along with because you were young and childish. Well, you're older now, but still quite childish.
"Hi Noodele!" You laughed as She joined our little group. Siobhan looked from you to me to Her and back to me. When She, Jillian, started up a conversation with me about the upcoming Girls Varsity soccer slumber party, and I jumped at the opportunity to have a normal conversation with my friend. It felt good to talk to Jillian this way, especially in front of you. It seemed almost like a triumph, after the questionable few days where you left the both of our heads spinning. Those days where we didn't know if you liked the both of us, and asked Jillian for my number, asked me to the Homecoming dance after the football game, but then made out with Jillian on the dance floor.
I guess we know who you finally decided on.
.
Tonight as I hand out Mini Snickers to little ninjas and lady bugs, I think about you and about the advice Siobhan gave to me a week ago. She told me that I won't ever "forget" about my first almost love, but it would be a good idea to forgive you. But it isn't going to be that easy, I know it's not.
Probably always yours,
Rose
