Dylan and I are sitting in the shade of a huge maple tree, sharing a sandwich and juice boxes.
"See, this, this right here, is why I can't stand the thought of dying."
I look at him out of the corner of my eye.
"Oh?"
"The way the sun reflects off things like it is, the smells, the sights, you... I don't want to leave it."
"Yeah... I can understand that."
There's several minutes of unbroken silence. It's not awkward, really, because there's so much to see. I find myself looking at him, unembarrassed for some reason. I know I should be worried that he'll see me or something, but I'm not. Instead, I'm completely engrossed in memorizing every detail of his face. I grin when I see that his eyes are a gorgeous dark green, with gold flecks in the middle. He finally catches my gaze and smiles at me.
"Whatcha looking at?"
"You."
"O-oh..."
I smile and put both of my hands on one of his.
"Help me up?"
"What?"
"I wanna sit on the bench next to you, not in this stupid wheelchair."
"Oh, uh, okay..."
I stand up and walk to the front of his chair, offering both of my hands as support. He manages to stand up on his own, but leans heavily on me until we get back to the bench. He sits heavily and nearly pulls me down with him. I'm slightly breathless but he seems happy.
"You okay?"
He nods, and I take a seat next to him. I bite my lip when I feel his arm wrap around my shoulders. We sit in contented silence until his nurse comes out and informs him that it's time for his mid-day meds. I help him back into his wheelchair and together we make out way back up to his room.
Short chapter, sorrryyyyyyyy... hope y'all enjoyed it though. These next coupla chapters are gonna be AWESOME! Be exited dudes. xxx
