Chapter 4

 Radiant Souls

 “Welcome to the greatest event of the school year!” A student said as they walked on stage. Everyone cheers and clapped. “For the next two hours you will hear the bands of our school rock and play the best songs possible.” He said. There was another wave of cheers and claps. “Our first group is Kevin and his guitar solo”. He said walking off stage as Kevin came on. Kevin played the guitar and everyone clapped when he finished. After him was Jimmy and Sara with their song that they wrote together. It was able friendship and all that good stuff so they got a lot of claps and cheers. After them was a group of seniors who called themselves the beast with heat. The group had five people and they were spread, the drummer had the center back stage. The two bass guitarists were on the left and right of the drummer but in the middle of the stage well the singer was top center. The sang a song called the kids aren’t alright by Offspring.

After the song ended,Everyone cheers and clapped, the senior class was the loudest since they were in the front and back. After they got off stage they had to talk to the principle due to some words said to in the song but after that everything was fine. The gang was together in the middle, “Hey, where are the Eds?” Lee said looking around. Everyone looked around and didn’t see them. “Plus Kevin is not here, I thought he only did one thing these year?” Nazz said. There was no one on stage and the lights faded out. There was Eddy and Ed on stage when Kevin came back out and the lights were on him. “Everyone! This year we have a very special surprise. We have someone for the very first time playing and sing a song. So make a lot of noise for him when he comes on” Kevin said back away from the mic. There was a guitar solo but it wasn’t from Kevin. Slowly someone was walking on stage as the Ed was playing the drums and Eddy and Kevin were playing the bass guitar. It was DD playing a black guitar as he walked up to the mic. Everyone cheered and whistled as he got to the mic. “No way, I thought he doesn’t play or sing?” Marie said. Jimmy told them that he had been practicing and trying for the last months. Marie chuckled a bit, “what’s so funny” May said looking at her. “He’s nerves, he pulls his hat over his eye when he is” Marie said pointing at him. DD was playing and singing a song called So Cold by Breaking Benjamin.

At the end of the song, everyone even the teachers were cheering and clapping for him. DD still had his hat over his eye but he was waving back to the crowd. The crowd cheered for another song. DD tap the mic to get everyone quiet, “So, one more song?” DD said surprise. The crowd got loud and chanted his name. DD looked around and saw Marie and she waved back and smiled. That was all he need in order to go on. DD turned and talk to his friends and after a moment or two, music started playing

There was a guitar solo then the drums joined in and everyone was getting pumped and excited. DD spoke into the mic, “This song was called Until the End by Breaking Benjamin.”

They finished strong and everyone cheered for them. The teachers, the students and even the seniors cheered. DD looked around and saw everyone smiling and laughing. He looked over his shoulders and saw Eddy, Ed, Kevin and Rolf giving him thumbs up and cheering. DD waved his hand so they would come closer and they wall bowed. Since they were the last group to go, everyone was going towards the doors. The Bands or performers got out after everyone left so they could put their stuff away in peace. “Way to go DD, You did great bal.” Eddy said jumping onto him. “Yea! DD!” Ed said joining in. They fell over and everyone laughed. “It was thanks to you guys really.” DD said getting up. They all went outside and were greeted by fans. They all ran to give them a hug, shake and so on. Marie,May,Lee were watching them from across the street. “Hey Marie, your man has change a lot” Lee said. Marie just nodded her head with a smile. “Make you wonder if he’ll still be single much longer” Lee said. Marie turn red and looked away, “What do you mean?” she said. “Well he’s smart, funny, he plays an instrument plus is a star on our football team” Lee said. Marie looked at DD who was getting hug from girls and high five from guys. “Not saying he will change but there is that chance” Lee said patting her back. The guys come over and the group went to the field and relaxed. They played pass with a football, got some food and lay out on the field

“So tonight is the semi-finals right?” Nazz said. “Yup, plus it’s against our rivals Parks” Kevin said. “But we’ve never win against them since everyone get hurts or is fouled to many times.” Jimmy said. “Well, DD is with us plus he is one of our best players.” Eddy said. DD didn’t answer and everyone turned and saw him laying his head down on Marie’s lap sleep. Marie was looking at him when she realized everyone was looking at her. “What? No it’s not what it looks like!” She said turning red. Everyone laughed, “Are you sure sis? Your face says other wise” Lee said. “May, help me out here?!” Marie said. May was laying down next to Ed as they read a comic book. “Can’t even go to sleep without anything happening?” DD said as he open his eye and saw Marie face. She looked down and the two looked into each other eyes and blushed. DD sat up fast, “Sorry, I was tired and so on” DD said. “It’s fine, don’t worry about it” Marie said as she leaned against him. Everyone laughed, The two said nothing as they turned red.
