"Wow, you are the most beautiful woman that I have ever touched. Better yet, the most beautiful woman I have ever seen next to my own mother." He rubs my hand gently and looks into my eyes and smiles.

"I would never treat you how your ex did. You deserve the world."

As he speaks to me, I stand there shy and in awe over the endless compliments and gentleness of his warm touch. The only thing that I could say was,

"You're so sweet, thank you." And I just blushed at the sweet praise as I am swept off of my feet.

That is how it all began and that was six, almost seven years ago. Boy has times changed. Back then no one could tell me that he was not the one for me without me chewing their head off. If someone would have asked me to describe his character my answer would have been charming, loyal, optimistic, empathetic, well grounded, confident, respectful, well-tempered, and communicative. I would have described him to be all of that and more! His looks were and still are sexier than ever but when ones' attitude is ugly it can also make the person look even uglier. I am sure you know what I am getting at here. Things have changed so drastically that it seems like it was in the blink of an eye.

I am sitting here in this office because I am seeking help. I know that there is a serious problem that needs to be fixed before it all comes to a complete end. I don't want it to end but I feel like it's coming soon. I don't know what to do at this point other than coming to you for advice. This is shameful to me – I never wanted it to result to this. Is it me? Do you think I did something to cause the sudden change? Please tell me if it's my fault, Dr. Chapman.

"Mrs. Morris before we begin I need your verbal and written consent to record our session for this evening since my husband is unable to sit in."

"You have my consent."

"Thank you. We shall begin. Please tell me the entire story from the beginning to the end. This is our first meeting so we will need to get as much information and details as possible in order to come up with a resolution to your situation. Once we hear your version of what happened we can give you a proper answer and we can create a plan."

"Please do not call me Mrs. Morris. You can call me by my first name, Dahlia. Also, there is only one version of this story. I am not going to lie about anything – I want to save my marriage."

"I believe that you will tell me the truth but as you know there are always two and sometimes even three sides to a story."

"Well, my story is the truth. I wish my husband could have been present for this session. Maybe next time I suppose. He said himself that if we receive marital therapy from a married couple it would be our best option. You know, y'all can relate more."

"Very true Dahlia. We hope to see him at our next session. Where is Mr. Morris?"

"He was called into work."

"What kind of work does he do?"

"Hassan is a producer and music engineer."

"Wow, that could be very lucrative and time-consuming."

"It is very lucrative now but it wasn't when he first turned his hobby into a career. It used to be stressful and it is very time-consuming."

"I bet it is. So what is it that you do Dahlia?"

"I am a Life Coach, Spoken Word Artist, and I Co-own our studio and lounge."

"I was unaware that you are a Life Coach. That is a lucrative line of work too."

"It has its ups and downs but I love it. How long have you been a couples' therapist?"

"I can definitely relate and this month will make seven years of us being in this business -- and I love spoken word!" She got a little excited once she heard spoken word but she quickly toned back down.

"Hmmm, seven years is a decent amount of time. Congratulations on your success Empress. Spoken word is something I do twice a week at my lounge. You should come out some time to hear the other artists and myself do our thing." Since I noticed her love for poetry I slid her my business card across her pretty cherry wood L-shaped desk. She picked it up, glimpsed at it, and put it in her drawer.
