Chapter 3 : Recovery

You ran full speed towards the infirmary, slowly running out of breath as you got closer. When you burst through the door you saw Levi, shirtless with bandages wrapped around him.

Your eyes filled with tears. "Levi..." You whispered while you walked over to him. He was still asleep, slowly breathing. You begin to cry uncontrollably, your best friend was going to die and you couldn't do anything.
Mikasa put a hand on your shoulder. "I'm sorry (Y/N)" she began to soothe your back while you continued crying.

The door opened and Commander Erwin stood there. He put a hand on your shoulder. "(Y/N) We're going to do anything we can to figure out who did this. I promise."

You looked up to face him and narrowed your eyes. "Oh yeah? How?"

Erwin sighed and crossed his arms. "We're going to check through everyone's drawers and closets. Levi said he described the figure to be in a black coat and white mask. We're going to find the one who has it."

"Well please, do the investigation as soon as possible. Who knows what could happen next..." You placed your hand over Levi's and laid your head back down.

"I should be going now." Mikasa said, giving you a small hug. "Don't worry (Y/N)... I'll be here for you if you need anything." And with that she let go of you and walked out the door.

"Thank you." You replied, watching her leave.

"We hope that he'll feel better. After all, he is humanity's strongest soldier. He'll get through this with no problem." Erwin slowly walked away, shutting the door behind him.

For a brief moment, you saw Eren standing there as Erwin opened the door and shut it. The look on his face was almost scary. Eyes completely wide open with a blank facial expression. As if he were watching you through the door and as Erwin opened the door, his eyes went bright as if he were a dear in headlights. "Guess I'll just have to wait for another day..." Eren said to himself under his breath.

"What was that Eren?" Erwin turned his head over to the young boy and tilted his head in slight confusion.

Crap... Eren thought.

He turned his head to face Erwin and let out a fake heart warming smile. "Oh-! Nothing sir! Just hoping that our Captain will be alright..."

Erwin nodded at him and returned the smile. "I'm sure he'll be okay." And with that he had walked off, leaving him alone in the hall.

It's been two weeks since the attack and Captain Levi is now up and running again. Erwin and the rest of the military police were still on the look out for Levi's attacker, but nothing was ever found. They didn't even find the mask in anyone's possession. Luckily nothing happened.

You were relieved that Levi was okay and the two of you continued training in no time.

The sun faded into a light orange and pink sunset on the training fields with just you and Levi. Both of you were sweaty from the training, clothes completely drenched.

Levi took a sip from his jug of water and took in a deep breath. "Let's call it a day." He bend over and put his hands in his knees.

"Hey are you alright?" You look over at him with certainty.

He nodded. "Yes, I'm alright. Just thinking." Levi then leaned forward and took a seat next to you.

"About the attacker?" You looked at him with a raised eyebrow while the soft evening breeze blew through you hair, cooling you off from the sweat you were drenched in.

Levi seemed to stare at you for a brief moment as if he were in a trace. You stared back at him and suddenly your cheeks started getting warm. He then pulled his eyes away from yours and looked out towards the setting sky.  "Tch. Why wouldn't I? The person was never caught. They could show up again."

You placed a hand on his bare shoulder, to which he replied by slightly jumping back. He became even more jumpy after the incident. "Sorry..." you whispered and pulled your hand away until Levi suddenly grabbed it.

Your heart nearly skipped a few beats when he held it tightly, not even phased by what he just did. As if holding your hand was something he did often. "Can I just hold your hand for a while?" He asked quietly while he kept eyes set on the sky.

Your eyes then softened as you nodded softly. "Sure..." you figured he'd want a little more moral support after the whole incident, but you didn't mind at all. After all, you are his best friend. Right?
