Phil woke up with the sound of something falling. Something in the kitchen, probably a pan. He just stayed in his bed, frozen.

Shit, shit, shit!

Phil smiled, so it wasn't a murderer who used pans as weapons, it was just Dan.

Come on you idiot, you're gonna wake up Phil.

Phil smiled, well, it was too late for that.

He stood up and went to the kitchen.

"Hi, Dan."

He was expecting Dan to turn around and smile, but that didn't happen. Dan just screamed and jumped.

"PHIL YOU IDIOT YOU SCARED ME!"

Yeah, good one Dan, call your idol idiot.

"It's fine. I don't mind."

"You don't mind that I almost had a heart attack?!"

"No, I meant..." Phil sighed. "You know how I'm your soulmate, right?"

Dan nodded.

"Well, because of that I can... well, uhm... I can hear your thoughts."

"What? You can hear everything I think?"

"Well, not exactly. I can hear you mostly when you think really loud, or when I really try. Also, if you want me to hear your thoughts, or try to communicate with me."

"What do you mean with "when I'm thinking loud"?"

"Well, there are times when our thoughts are louder. For example when we feel an intense emotion or when we are thinking too much."

"Okay... is there any way for me to control it? I mean, no offence, but I don't want you in my head 24/7."

"Well, if you're trying to hide and specific thought you can try to think something else, but I don't really know how to... block someone. I've never had to."

So you can hear me now?

"Yeah."

"That's like the coolest and weirdest thing ever."

"Yeah."

They stayed there for a second just looking at each other.

"So what were you doing with a pan in the middle of the night?"

"The middle of the night? Phil it's ten in the morning."

"WHAT?"

"Yeah. We overslept."

"Oh my god, Dan! You need to go to uni!"

"Nah, it's fine."

"No Dan! You need to go, why didn't you wake me up?"

"Phil, seriously, it's fine. No one goes to class in their first year."

And it's not like I like what I'm studying.

"What are you studying?"

"Law."

Phil scrunched his nose.

"Law?!"

"No need to show you hate it that much!"

"No! It's fine, it's just... I didn't take you for a potential lawyer."
