Chapter 8 : Between

"Kyra, I know we've been apart for so long, but being with you now, I realize how much you mean to me. I can't imagine my life without you in it. Will you give me the chance to make up for lost time? Will you consider being my partner, my confidante, my everything, from this day forward?"

Kyra stood frozen, her mind reeling from Hayden's unexpected proposal. Her jaw hung slack, her breath caught in her throat as her heart raced erratically. Blood rushed to her cheeks, coloring them crimson, while her hands turned cold and clammy.

"Kyra? Are you okay?" Hayden's voice broke through her stupor, filled with genuine concern. He reached out tentatively, his hand hovering near hers, but she couldn't bring herself to respond. The world seemed to spin around her, leaving her dizzy and disoriented.

In that moment of vulnerability, Alex appeared beside her, his presence a reassuring anchor amidst the chaos. His touch on her face was gentle yet firm, grounding her in reality. Sensing her distress, his protective instincts kicked in, his gaze narrowing as he turned his attention to Hayden.

"What's going on here?" Alex's voice was steady, though an undercurrent of tension ran beneath the surface. He met Hayden's gaze with a piercing intensity, silently demanding an explanation for the turmoil that had engulfed Kyra.

Hayden's smile faltered under Alex's scrutiny, his confidence wavering as he struggled to find the right words. "I... I proposed to her," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

Alex was astounded. He released Hayden's collar and turned to Kyra, his heart pounding in his chest. Sitting beside her, he gently cupped her face, searching her eyes for any sign of what she was feeling. 

"Baby, please come back to me," Alex pleaded, his voice laced with desperation and longing

As their lips met in a tender kiss, a rush of emotion flooded over him, igniting a spark of hope in his heart. Kyra responded to his kiss, her fingers tangling in his hair as she leaned into him.

Meanwhile, Hayden stood motionless, his heart sinking as he watched the intimate moment unfold before him. 

Kyra's mind was a whirlwind of emotions as she felt Alex's lips on hers. The sudden kiss ignited a spark within her, stirring feelings she had buried deep inside. As Alex deepened the kiss, Kyra found herself melting into his embrace, the warmth of his touch comforting and familiar.

As Hayden disappeared from view, Alex pulled Kyra closer to him, his arms wrapping around her protectively. He could feel her trembling slightly, her emotions still raw from the encounter with Hayden. Leaning in, he whispered softly in her ear, reassuring her of his love and commitment.

Kyra's pulse quickened as she distanced herself from Alex, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions raging within her. Anger simmered beneath the surface, fueling her every step backward.
