"Do you have to read every. Single. Second?"

I shrugged.

"Seriously Lucy!" My best friend Elizabeth said, plucking the book out of my hands. "Participate in REAL life. I mean why shouldn't you? Your life is perfect! You have an AWESOME family a good brain, and the ultimate best friend!" Elizabeth cried flipping her hair.

"Elizabeth give it back." I said wincing at the way my friend was holding the book, dangling by its hard-cover.

Elizabeth sighed.

"You can force the girl out of the book, but you can't force the book out of the girl." She said handing the book back to me. I smiled at her before opening it back up.

"I know, I know, I'm the best friend you could ever have." Elizabeth sighed with a wry, smile. She slumped back in her seat and started listening to Youtube videos before the bell rang. I smiled. Elizabeth was one of those girls that WANTED to be popular an acted like she was popular but in reality........wasn't. She was to short. Not the kind of good short the cool short that everyone likes, but TOO short like 5th grader short. She had short straight shoulder-length brown hair. People thought it was to plain, not noticeable like blonde or black or red hair. Plus she was very new to the school. She had only been there for a year. Elizabeth had started out as a scrawny girl with nerdy black glasses and a stack of non-fiction books. But soon she traded her glasses for contacts (I mean literally snuck out in the middle of the night and TRADED her glasses to some creepy dude) and sold all her books at a garage sale to buy fake nails and a blinged-out iPhone case. In my mind I would have never guessed we would've been best friends. I on the other hand was one of the people who didn't try and/or WANT to be popular but was. I had curly black hair and electric green eyes. I was short, but the cool kind of short, the kind everyone liked. My hair fell all the way to my waste and was extremely hard to do so I didn't. But nobody seemed to care. They all still liked me. I tried to hide out in my books and tried to push reality away but that became extremely hard when.......everyone was expecting you to participate. Just as the bell rings a tall boy with curly brown hair slumps into the seat in front of me. Great. I think. Its not like ill actually pay attention in school! I just sit there and day dream about books and characters. But i like to make it look at least like im paying attention. I cant do that very well if i cant see the board! I sigh and sit back. It was going to be a long 9th period.
