Chapter 2

We knew the house was empty. Zexy had been told by a friend that the owner was out for a week on vacation. We also knew that the owner was rich, house filled of tons of electronics and probably a huge wad of cash from their cafe business. But we wanted to make sure, so we were sitting behind a shrub in their garden trying to avoid the poor weather of wind and rain. I lived in Arizona so it didn't rain a whole lot here but once and awhile we did get some storms.

"Come on, Ty," Zexy said giving me a gentle push as his black, blue streaked hair fell in his face. "It's empty and we both know it! Let's do this quick."

I shrugged him off my back and scanned around the house. All the lights were off, and had been since we got here which was thirty minutes ago. There also hadn't been any movement from inside so I could only assume it was safe to go inside. Zexy was usually right about that kind of stuff. There were a few times where he wasn't. One time we raided a house on the other side of town and I came face to face with a guy who was heading to get a midnight snack. He was half asleep but as soon as he was in my face he fully woke up and we just stared at each other until we both screamed. Zexy and I high tailed it out of there with him following us for a moment, you may think that's not that scary, but he was butt naked and had a gun.

Luckily nothing like that has happened since but I didn't want it too, that's why I was being so careful. Want to avoid all contact with owners, clothed or naked.

Zexy nudged me again signalling it was time to book it to the window. I adjusted my soaking wet hair so I could see and a bunch of droplets fell down the back of my neck and shirt. I shuddered, stupid rain... Why tonight?

"Alright, let's go," I whispered, standing up. My legs tingled with the sensation of falling asleep and I did a few knee hugs to get feeling back into them. It was a chilly spring night, but every so often the moon would shine through the clouds and light up all the soaked objects with a silver glow, it was super pretty and if my mind hadn't been focused on greed and stealing, I might have stopped and admired it.

Taking a deep breath, I sprinted across the yard. Silent like a predator, but still avoiding anything that would make a lot of noise like stones. I pressed my back against the wall and turned to around to see Zexy mumbling and grumbling as he hopped across the yard on one leg. Did he hurt himself?

"Dog shit..." I heard him hiss in disgust. "Why am I always the one to step in shit?!"

I gave a tiny smile but it didn't last long. I was way too focused, that was a thing adrenaline did to me, it made me focus on one specific thing, making my heart race and blood pump fast. As I said before, I felt like a predator, all my senses enhanced and ready to bolt if things weren't gonna go my way.

Zexy finally made his way over and I put on some gloves and dug my fingers under the window and shoved it up. People had a habit of leaving their windows unlocked here because it can get really hot in houses.

"And we're good. Come on Zexy." I turned to him to see him wiping his shoe in the mud and grass, it got off the crap but it ruined his shoe. "Zexy!" I shouted grabbing his attention. He pouted.

"These were eighty dollar shoes Ty..." He whined.

"Buy yourself new ones after this raid tonight," I replied adjusting my hair again. "Buy yourself as many pairs as you can."

Zexy grinned and walked over to me. "Alright give me a boost."

I paused, this window seemed to open almost too easy. We didn't use any little tools to unlock it or keep it open properly it just stayed open. Something should've seen fishy to me but my overpowering greed was too excited. If this raid tonight went as planned, Zexy and I wouldn't have to do this again for months. Still, I wasn't giving Zexy the boost, not with that shoe. "Umm, no. You give me the boost."

Zexy whined again and we both peeked inside before trying to get in. Inside was a sofa, love seat and large chair. There were a few unblinking lights that at first in my brain processed as a big dog that was going to maul us, but after realizing there was no growling and that it was just electronics did I feel really stupid.

Zexy held two duffel bags and he pushed them up onto the windowsill and pushed them in. He then squatted town and laced his fingers together. I stepped my foot in the holster he'd made with his hands and he quickly shoved me up into the window. I landed on my side with a thud. I quickly got back up and looked around making sure again that the house was empty. I heard and saw nothing so I went back over to the window. Zexy had put his own gloves and and put his hands on the windowsill, I bent over and grabbed him by the arms and started to pull him up. He put his muddy and nasty shoe on the wood and it slipped sending us both tumbling backwards into the love seat. We both yelped as he fall on top of me which was then followed with a deafening silence as we both froze.

For a moment the whole world spun and the only thing I heard was my panicking heart and shaky breath. But there was no screams, no slamming of doors, or loud footsteps. I gave a slight sigh in relief. Zexy's clumsiness could wake the dead.

I pushed him off me and got to feet. I picked up my bag and offered Zexy a hand which he took.

"Um, sorry about that." He grumbled, mad at himself as he pulled himself up,

"Don't worry about it you klutz," I replied with a small smile. "You gather the electronics, I'm gonna go search for the cash."

"Loud and clear." Zexy said pulling out a flashlight. I pulled out my own and headed towards the hallway leaving him the the devices.

I'm not sure what it is, but does anyone really get over the sensation of being in someone else's house with or without their permission. It's weirder without their permission, but everything just seems different, the smell, atmosphere, even the air seems different. I always kind of imagined it as it's the house trying to tell you to get out. Like in the movie Monster House, where the house was alive and it would eat people it didn't like. I knew it was fake but still there is that one little part in the back of your mind that is warning you that the house will trap you up in the dark forever.

I shook the thoughts out of my head. According to our accomplice who tipped Zexy off, the owners kept a bucket of the cash in the office, along with a bunch of money from a charity bake sale they did. This should be simple.

The house was old, but it was in good shape. Nothing creaked as I made my way up the stairs. I moved my light back and forth to make sure I didn't trip on any loose carpet or something. On the second floor there was a series of doors, at least 5. I snuck over to each door and peeked inside, the first door was a guest room and I almost had a heart attack as I shone my light inside and a shadow appeared and scared the shit out of me. But it ended up being a plant. Can add that to my list of stupid achievements. The second door I opened was a bathroom, the only scary thing in there was a rubber ducky that stared at me from the tub, I half expected it's head to do a 360. I shook the eerie thought from my head and quickly shut the door. Third times the charm I thought as I opened the third door and looked into the room I was hoping for. The office. I sneaked inside and looked around, there was a large desk that held a huge wad of cash. I walked over and picked it up, there were hundreds, fifties, twenties and tens a good couple grand in all. I opened the first drawer on the left and inside that was another huge wad of cash, mostly with twenties, tens, fives and singles along with a large bag of coins next to it.

A huge grin spread across my face as I reached for the money, but I stopped mid way when a loud scream echoed from downstairs. I froze. The house wasn't empty?! But the owners were away!

My insides suddenly felt encased in ice and I felt goosebumps rise on my arms making them tingle. If the house wasn't empty than Zexy would've booked it. I quickly grabbed the money shoving it in my coat pocket and jumped up as another scream emitted from downstairs. I was about to run but I stopped mid step.

The house was empty. I thought wrong, it wasn't the owner. It was Zexy.

The shock quickly turned to fear as I looked up and standing behind the door I had just come in was a mountain of a figure. I looked up and met his eyes which were to silver dots, my breath was suddenly taken from me and I struggled to get it back. His suit blended in perfectly with the darkness. A sinister grin slowly crept on his face, and it was so white it stuck out, but his teeth were pointed, making the grin look like you were face to face with a shark in the middle of the ocean. I held my breath to keep from screaming, I don't think it worked.
