Dan's POV:

"Make a wish, Daniel!" My mother said behind a camera. I smiled brightly, as I did most of the time. My bestfriend was also smiling and was jumping up and down, her brown pigtails going with her. Her stripped hat, similar to mine, was tilted ever so slightly due to her excitement going untamed.

I leaned forward to blow out the candles and make the stupid wish 6 year old me would probably believe would come true.

I'd become a star.

Not like a celebrity kind of star, no, a literal star in space.

What a childish wish.

"Daniel what did you wish for?!" My bestfriend said cheerily. I smiled over at her and replied "I want to be a star!" with the brightest smile you'd ever see.

She giggles and told me that's silly and that it'd never come true. I cried for the first time in years that day. It wasn't her fault. It was mine for being so childish to believe I could be what I wanted to be.

They tell us the sky's the limit but I wanted past the sky,

I wanted the universe.

"Daniel! Wake up it's time for breakfast!" My mom yelled from the bottom of the stairs, waking me from my slumber.

Of course I was dreaming about that stupid day, it partially ruined my life. I know it sounds silly and all but it hurt me because it was my dream and it was crushed by someone I cared about more than anything.

I moved my legs so they were touching the ground and put my head in my hands.

Today is gonna be a long, stressful day. At least Phil promised to stay with me the whole time.

Phil...

I may have only known him for a few days but he's already made my cloudy life brighter. . No one has ever agreed to stargaze with me, and yet he said yes as if it was the greatest thing ever.

Who wouldn't look at the balls of light contrasting against the dark night sky. Sometimes you'd see the moon peeking out during a sunset and you'd see the sky fade from pink to purple to pitch black slowly, and the sky would scatter with millions of grands of sands that washed up onto the universe's shores.

Stars are just so beautiful, I wish I could be up there with them, away from this cruel world.

I stood up and made my way over to my window, almost tripping over my bear plushie. I opened the blinds and immediately saw the room only 6 feet from mine. He was sat at a white desk with a laptop covered in floral stickers, what a nerd. I smiled to myself and noticed his window was open. I opened mine excitably and stuck my head out.

"Hey Phil!" I yelled loud enough for him to hear me. He looked over at me with shock at first and then he smiled and got up. He crawled onto his bed and stuck his head out his window. "Hey Dan! What's up"

"Do you want to help me decorate in an hour?" I said hoping he'd say his. His smile fell for a second. "Oh... I'm sorry Dan but I can't help, my parents are forcing me to go get new clothes for the party. They don't want me dressing 'girly' in front of our new neighbors... But I'll see you at 5pm! I promise." He said smiling again.
